OT - Help with stubborn 3 year old!!

I don't think they did check for a UTI this last time. The only thing she was complaining of was her side hurting. I don't know if my mom mentioned the accidents - but I think she did. Of course she did have to see a visiting doctor instead of her regular one - not that that necessarily made any difference. She made it today until we got home - got her surprise - then proceeded to pee her pants. Then she ended up peeing her pants AGAIN while sitting on DH's lap. I just can't believe she did it on purpose - so I'm thinking we might be going back to the doctor this week.

As far as how her pee smells - it has always stunk - since she was a baby she has had very stinky pee. So unfortunately I can't go by that :rotfl:

At this age it's so hard to tell if it's on purpose or not. I think you'll have a better idea of whether it's behavioral or physiological if you can rule out (or in) a UTI or kidney infection. That would be a good first start, so I think you're smart to consider another trip to the doctor.

Also, something my DSis's doctor mentioned when her DD3 was struggling with this issue...do you think maybe she's suddenly become afraid of the potty? Three year olds are famous for developing irrational fears (triggered or untriggered)...they conjure things up in their pretty little heads!! :rotfl: Prior to my niece's regression phase, she'd declared the potty insert seat for babies and started sitting on the normal toilet seat without it. I still wonder if she scared herself by almost falling in one day and garnered a potty fear at that point. ;) My niece also had zero accidents at daycare/preschool during the week (only at home when Mom and Dad were around) and initially we wanted to conclude that she was "taking it out" on her parents, but really I think it was just that her daycare days are more structured, and the teachers have regimented potty times for the children. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, as soon as my DSis and DBil started reminding her to go potty every two hours, they made HUGE progress in reducing the amount of accidents. It took her about six months to be totally accident free, but she never ended up having a physiological problem. Her doctor insisted it was a common part of the potty training process, as frustrating as it may be!!

So, rule out any physical causes and work from there. Sounds like you're doing a good job though - hang in there and remember...she won't graduate from high school in diapers!!
