I need some help. I have a Nintendo ds, and I'm trying to hook it up to Wi-Fi. I have Linksys and highspeed broadband cable. I am on the family computer, which is a fully loaded desktop from Dell, and is just a few months old. :confused3

When my mom is using her dell notebook with an internal Internet card, the Wi-Fi light is always lite. Does that mean that she has Wi-Fi already? What do I do to get it on this desktop? Does it cost extra? I just want to know how to play games with my dis friends, especially on my Nintendo ds.
:confused3

Can any of you smart dis people help me? I need advise and instructions...[step by step].

HELP!!!

I don't know, game... On your games compatible with wi-fi, look for the WF Connection thing, then look around options and you should be able to connect. And no, wi-fi costs nothing extra. Go to www.nintendowifi.com or something like that to get real help if this doesn't help. XD

Ok, ok.First, you will need wireless internet. Ask an adult to buy the router and hook it up for you.Once they do that, hold it up to the computer (your DS) and you should be all set.
NOTE: Wireless internet takes about 3 hours to hook up and a lot of phone calls..lol

I don't know how to add your game system to wi-fi but we just went through this with my son's PSP. We have the Linksys router too and I do believe the light on your mother's laptop does mean she already has wi-fi.

You will need a linksys (or some other brand but we stayed with linksys) receiver (not sure what it is really called) plugged into a USB port on your computer to add wi-fi to your desktop. I think the receiver/antenna costs something like $40. I'm using wi-fi right now with a Linksys receiver/antenna connected to this system. I believe you can buy the wireless network cards to add to your computer but this set up seemed to be the easiest for us.

Does the Nintendo have some sort of network menu? My son was able to turn on his PSP and then go to some menu and change it to be on line. I'm not really familiar with the PSP so I'm sorry I can't be more specific. He's asleep so I can't ask him for help.

Gamebot, I'll ask my husband when he gets home from running errands. He is a computer geek and should be able to help you with your problems, unless you've already fixed it with gruthie's suggestions?

Hey, I'm a computer geek too! I just don't know the names for these particular things.

Really, I do have a degree in Computer Science so I am truly a computer geek. So is my husband! We can be quite dangerous when we have only half a clue about what we're doing because we'll try it anyway. :rotfl2: I'm more daring that he is, I'll delete a random file without knowing what it is.

My son was just setting up his PSP so he can use the headset with it. That has been a headache. Without the headset he just had to go to the Network Settings and change it to TCP/IP or Broadband (I think). The headset requires static IPs so that means messing around with the Linksys router and knowing the Mac address for everything on the wireless network. I hope you don't have to do that!

Another thing that may matter is whether or not the router has encryption turned on. Again, not something you really want to mess with if you don't have to.

So, does your Nintendo have some sort of set up option that has to do with Network Settings? If so, try selecting TCP/IP or Broadband as the type of connection.

My son has a DS and we have linksys for our wireless- when he gets off work I'll get him to leave you a message- I know he uses it all the time for email and things

But I have no idea how he hooked it all up

We had issues with WiFi also. My son has Animal Crossing and wanted to visit other towns. With our old wireless router I couldn't get it to work. We just moved to a new house and got fiber optic internet so we had to get a new router. It works with the new router. Unfortunately, I don't know what I did to make it work. I just played with the settings until it worked. Sorry.

I do know that Nintendo makes an adapter that helps hook up to WiFi if the router doesn't automatically let it.

Wish I could be more help.

Hey Malia! I also had issues with my wifi. Norton kept blocking the port so it wasn't allowed.

OK, I know nothing about the DS except that I have 1. But anyways, why is this being posted in the VMK section. Not to take i in the bad way, But I'm just curious

I ALSO need help with mine lol

I am having the same problem as gamebot

I can only connect to people in my house.....
