Hi there,

I presently work part-time with the local school board but I am looking for something different, hopefully full time. Here's the background, i have my diploma in Travel & Tourism from a zillion years ago but never pursued certification. I can't afford to take the course again because I have to work & can't really afford the tuition. Does anybody have any ideas on how I can get into the industry? I know all that I really need to upgrade is to learn the software they are presently using, the other skills haven't changed that much that a little home studying couldn't do the trick (geography, airport codes,etc...) I have lots of training in Customer Service, Communication, teamwork, etc....

So any ideas? I'm in Moncton, NB by the way!

Can you hit all the travel agencies in Moncton and see if they need anyone part time to start with and hopefully you can be brought up to speed that way?

I've done some online courses through Humber College and it's actually only $178.00 per course - it's not that pricey and only requires about 20-30 hours of your time. There is one course (but you have to take the rest first before it...), but here's the course intro:
Automated Airfares and Tickets
Course Number: TRAV 612

"Become proficient in the automation systems used by airlines and their authorized agents as you continue to practice creating PNRs and add the skills of interpreting fare quote displays and rule displays, pricing and ticketing. Exercises and drills will improve your proficiency and speed. You will use RTS©, a "hands-on" simulation of Sabre® in conjunction with the online tutorial. The full RTS© Sabre® simulation program includes three courses."

Maybe your former education will exempt you from other courses and you can skip right through with what you need to do...

Good luck!

My DD is currently 3/4 way through her travel consulting program through the local college. They offer correspondence as well as evening classes (she's doing the evening classes-4 nights a week)
