Sorry to post this here, but as many say, you guys are my friends and always so helpful. Plus I find my "budget friends" to be very resourceful and good problem solvers. ;)

Apparently, I (:guilty: ) left a pen in my pocket from work and it EXPLODED in my dryer. There is ink all over the inside of the drum, the door, not to mention my clothes. I need advice on how to clean the dryer and the clothes (if they are at all salvagable, most just have small spots here and there). I am concerned about puting chemicals in the dryer to clean b/c I wouldn't want to use something that could cause a fire when I use it next. Any advice for me!!!

PS- I did learn my lesson, I will check all pockets from now on prior to washing.

If it is a regular ball point pen, try rubbing alcohol on your clothes. I used Soft Scrub with bleach to clean my dryer when the crayons went through. I wiped it out really well and then ran some old wet towels through to make sure it was all off.

I found using hand sanitizer on ink works well. Just squirt a little on and rub it in.

I used nail polish remover on the dryer and that worked great.:)

I did the same thing about 5 years ago! I called Maytag and their support said get as much out with rubbing alcohol as you can and then run the dryer on the highest setting for 2 or 3 cycles and it will "burn" the rest into the tub. I got most of it out but there were some marks still... and five years later they are still there but I have never had ink on my clothing.

I did this in March. There are still marks ijn the dryer, but they don't come off on the clothes. fr the brand new outfits that I had in there, I used Vaseline and then poured rubbing alcohol over them. After washing them 3 times, most of the ink came out.

Husband did this on my son's new JoJo outfit I made him so I have lots of experience! For the clothes I used rubbing alcohol. Place an old towel down, then the shrit, ink side touching the towel. Put alcohol on a cotton ball and dab, ink will transfer onto towel. Keep moving it to a clean area of the towel. Three hours later and the outfit looked new again!

Dryer we used both nail polish and rubbing alcohol. I really wasn't having much luck so left for DH and he spent a couple hours really scrubbing it hard with a rag.

I use Zout to get ink off of my clothes. One day at work I accidently marked a shirt in front of my boss, she felt so bad because I told her it was one of my favorite tops, but I knew how to get it off. Next time I wore it she stopped me and could not believe it was gone.

Thanks for the tips-I just had an ink pen explode and drip all down the front of my white fridge, and goof off had no effect on it. I'm going upstairs to get some nail polish remover. Keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't take the white off, as well....

I also use nail polish remover. I had the same thing happen in my dryer, then it got all over the floor. This cleaned it up quick and easy!

my ds had a pen, gum and, candy in his pocket and so when it went into the dryer the same thing happened to us. I use an eraser to get the pen stains out of the dryer (we just got it in Jan) and I am still getting the candy out with a bounce dryer sheet and a plastic scrapper (pampered chef stoneware scrapper). Good luck.

Thanks everyone, I knew you all could help me. I'll try these things and I give you all an update later. Thank you all so much.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for the dryer.

This happened to us a few years back with a uni-ball permanent pen. It didn't come out of any of the clothes (we even ordered that expensive ink remover they suggest you use on their website). The dryer worked with that orangeglo stuff, a finger nail brush, scrubbing and hard work. My boyfriend (husband now) did it, and my dryer was like two weeks old. Oh well. It did come out.

same thing happened to me again last night..I am ready to beat my husband over the head for leaving pens in his cargo pockets...I got all the stains out except for the cargo shorts..It left a HUGE spot and I tried all the above and nothing worked so he now has a new pair of yard mowing shorts..:confused3

I started this thread, but is it pretty ironic how many other people got help from this thread as well. I am so glad. The nail polish remover worked the best for me. The inside of the dryer drum still has stains but I am not to worried about the inside, I just wanted to get the ink off and not have anymore on my clothes in the next dryer loads. i haven't worked on the clothes yet, but did buy some zout and will work on that his week. Thanks everyone who gave advice. Bet I never do that again! :rolleyes1

It happened again, with a uni-ball pen all over our clothes and dryer. I googled it and came across boiling a pot of water with 1/2-1 cup of Biz detergent put the clothes in simmer for 45 minutes then leave in pot to cool then launder like usual. This worked on most of my clothes but beware of mixing colors-duh. I put all kinds of colors in there and it changed the color to purple.
