My DS has been hospitalized with this, has anyone else been through this? princess:

Ok I am not sure but my neighbors 4 year old was hospitalized last week with something that sounds just like what you wrote. It was a high fever- then some kind of cyst developed- It could be either viral or bacterial? and if viral it was not as serious. But his turned out to be bacterial. So he was hospitalized for 3 days. Given strong antibiotics- He needed to be watched for his fever. I do know he came home with some kind of drip still on him but he is leaps and bounds better already(and this is one week later)
I am not certain it is the same thing but Mitosis sounds more like what they called it. I looked it up on webmd and it is related to some kind of infection. I hope he is doing better and I am glad he is being treated. Hang in there mom.

No, sorry to hear, and hopes & prayers for a speedy recovery.

Myositis-muscle inflammation
Mitosis-cell division process

This is what I found out about Acute Viral Myositis

Viral myositis can also present with proximal muscle weakness, but differs from other inflammatory myopathies by its propensity to affect calf muscles. Severe pain over affected muscle is typical and more pronounced than in JDM. Viral myositis usually occurs 1-2 days after an upper respiratory infection and is commonly attributed to influenza A and B infections (8). Rapid resolution occurs within weeks.

THANK YOU ALL princess:

He is home now doing better after intensive I.V treatment.

His test for Influenza was neg., but he did just have pneumonia before all this happened.
He does get the flu shot, but that only covers the A type not B.

The first symptom for this Myositis was the high fever followed by leg pain, he could not walk at all!

Thank you all again for your kindness. princess:

I'm glad your little guy is doing better now! My ds was just diagnosed today. Spent some time at the Children's Hospital but fortunately we were able to come home. They have seen quite a bit of this recently. We had 2 other cases at our school, one of which the child spent 2 weeks at the hospital.

My ds has had a fever but no other symptoms. Then this morning when he woke up, he complained of pains in the back of his legs and was unable to stand - and has been walking on tiptoe all day. The doctor gave a preliminary diagnosis of viral myositis, which was confirmed by a blood test. If I understand correctly, Viral myosistis is a muscular inflammation brought on by a flu-like virus. There is potential concern for kidney problems, which is why they want you to drink alot of water. Flush out the bad stuff.

This is a virus that I'd never heard of before. If your child develops similar symptoms, call the doctor so they can tell you what to watch for.

{{{HUGS}}} to all the sick little ones!
