OT:Goody bag stuff for 4/5 year olds???

HELP! DD5 has her birthday party this Saturday with a bunch of her preschool friends, and I am HORRIBLE at trying to figure out what to fill the goody bags with! Guests will be between 4 and 5 years old. There is no real "theme" to the party as it is being run by our park district, so I am lacking inspiration. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Pencils, stickers, small bag bags of Goldfish or fruit chews - we use the Princess ones, small bottles of glitter nail polish, Princess chapstick or little pot of lip gloss - Target has a whole section of kiddie makeup and nail polish.

Bubbles are always a favorite. Also stickers, pencils, crayons, small notepads, balloons, etc.

I like mini playdough packs. I am also a fan of the Target $1 section. My store had some cute little jump ropes. Also check out Michaels' $1 section for other cute, inexpensive items.

If you have a Dollar Tree near you, they have cute things for girls like pretend play/dress up (butterfly wings, cheerleader pom poms, etc.) as well as other inexpensive toys like echo mikes, candy, etc.

This is what I put in DD(4) 4th bday party this September (we had Disney princess theme but doesn't have to be)

bubbles
lollipops
fake rings
party blowout things (you know the ones that stop blowing when you get your spit all over it)
foil wrapped chocolate coins
stickers
princess wands

Bubbles -- definitely the biggest hit. You can find plain generic little bottles of bubbles at craft stores -- saw them at Hobby Lobby last week 24 for 3.99.

I'm all for keeping goodie bags simple. In fact, this year we threw a combined party for our two DDs at a local "Pump it Up". It's a great party, but pretty expensive, and we decided that the party, pizza, cake, etc. was prize enough! Each child got to take home one of the balloons -- and they were thrilled! At this age, they don't EXPECT anything, and so if you want to do something, a balloon, a small pack of stickers, or some other small token is just fine.

My DD9 LOVES doing goodie bags - she's ready for any occasion to take goodie bags to her friends, she always has been -

I agree with the little playdough and bubbles - they are always the favorite! Even at 9 the kids love getting those. She always liked (likes) to include the bouncy balls. We are usually pretty successful at our local Party City if you have one of those close.

I agree they can get expensive. I am needing to go get things for her class at school for Friday - we've got pencils and candy canes so far! We don't have a big family to give gifts too - she has no siblings - so I like that she enjoys giving to others!

Be careful with foods, my son has food allergies and it's really hard for him to have me strip all the food out of the goody bag before he can touch it. My daughter had a supergirl theme (my son's birthday party was the same day and we did superman for him). We gave out bubbles for all, little superman gliders we got cheap, superman rings and beads for the girls and little parachute guys for the boys....the beads were the biggest hit.

I rarely put food in the bags unless I know the receivers well, and then I will customize the bags accordingly. For school usually no edible items in the bags - except a candy cane at XMAS.

Thanks for all the awesome ideas. Guess what I just found out? I have a Scholastic book warehouse nearby-ish and they have a sale going on. I 'm going to buy each child a book and make personalized bookplates to put on the inside with "thanks for coming to my 5th birthday party! Your Friend,", and maybe just a sucker. Thanks for getting the creative juices flowing!

I want to second some good ideas that worked for me. I kept this mix for years rotating the a little as time went on.

Small 4 pack crayola crayons from Party city or Walmart.
A small coloring book or notepad.
A mini Uno set from Walmarts party section, great for playing while waiting at a restaurant.
Pretzels, chips,Cheezits or Animal crackers
Fruit Snacks, Disney Princess for girls
