Morning! :surfweb: Hope all the mom's out there had a wonderful Mother's Day yesterday!

Okay, so yesterday our fun activity was putting together a giant photomosaic puzzle of Mickey Mouse. We still have a few more pieces to go. I love this and it took so much darned work that we want to keep it together. Has anyone ever glued a puzzle together before? Is it a really messy/complicated thing to do?

We figured that once we got it glued, we could frame it up and hang it. I bought two small jars of puzzle glue from Walmart...but a bit apprehensive...not sure what to expect or what I'm dealing with here. Any tips or suggestions for someone who has never attempted to do this before?

OMG! My daughter has that same exact puzzle and she glued it and framed it too! It will work fine- the only downfall we have had it gluing a puzzle and letting it sit around- they start to curve up all around the edges.

Seems there's not too many different ones out there. :rotfl: I picked up two POTC photomosaics too, so I want to get Mickey out of the way and start those. pirate:

I did that puzzle a few years ago. It was a tough one with all those dark pieces! Drove me nuts (& I love puzzles). I also glued and framed it. I just did a POTC one (photomosaic) for ds. I glued the front, let it dry, then did the back. You need to frame it soon afterwards as it will start to curl up. Be sure to put some newspaper or something underneath. Sometimes the glue will seep through and get on the table.

Cool! This was just the info I was looking for. Right now the puzzle is on our ping pong table and between last night and this morning, we managed to get the rest of those pesky black pieces put into the puzzle! Whew! What a job! I felt like I needed a microscope to see some of those pictures of the black pieces! :rotfl: I'll have to go pick up a frame this evening and we can start on the gluing process. I will definitely make sure we slide the pizzle onto some newspaper. Thanks for the info! :flower3:

I found that Mod-Podge works just as good as puzzle glue and it's so much cheaper in our area. You get twice the size jar and I think it cleans up better too. I did this exact same puzzle. One word of advice, if you flip it over to glue the back of the puzzle (gives it added strength) make sure that the edges of the puzzle front don't stick to the newspaper. You may want to add extra coats also. One more thing; if you're going to frame it, you might not want to use a poster frame. The puzzle is too thick for most of those frames-we couldn't get the frame edges back on. We had to get an actual frame for pictures. Just some more info for you! Good luck!!

I am soooo jealous! I got that puzzle for Christmas and haven't finished it yet! I did get a castle puzzle done though but need to get a frame.

If the poster frames don't fit well, what do you buy?

We glued the same puzzle also. I have one of Sorceror Mickey too, but I haven't started it yet. My only advice is when you glue it, instead of putting newspaper under it put wax paper under it. Wax paper won't stick to the puzzle like newspaper does and wax paper is easier to slied under the puzzle.

One other thing, buy a poster frame that is at least an inch bigger than the puzzle on all sides, or like someone else said, you won't be able to get the frames back on the edge. I some times buy a colored poster board to put behind the puzzle in the frame and it gives it a colored mat look.

ok, OT but where are you guys getting these puzzles? I've been looking around forever for Disney puzzles .. adult Disney puzzles to be more specific and I can't find them anywhere!

I've purchased our Disney photomosaic puzzles at Walmart mostly. But I have seen them at Toys R Us in the games area too. :)

We did this puzzle and framed it also, the framing dept. at Michaels suggested that we just put it on top of a piece of matte board and just frame it without the glue. We did it and it's working fine. Enjoy!

When I glue a puzzle, I flip it over and brush on or sponge on diluted whte glue. It doesn't take much glue as you thin it to the consistance of milk or cream. The only real trick is having a board big enough to flip it over. I've never glued to the front of a puzzle.

I glued the front of a puzzle once. A beautiful, Old-World-y 12 Days of Christmas Hallmark puzzle that they didn't make anymore. (can you tell where this is going???) The puzzle glue RUINED it. It flaked and took the picture with it. I was devastated. So, I highly recommend only gluing the back and making sure you have high quality fresh glue.

Very good tips. I will definitely use wax paper and I think we will just try gluing the back and then slipping it into a frame once it dries. I'd hate to have gone through all that work putting the puzzle together only to have the pictures start to peel off. Thanks everyone! :thumbsup2

I have a the Sorcerer Mickey one, I never thought to frame it but my dad LOVES Sorcerer Mickey (he's a chemist) and that would make a GREAT gift!! Thanks for this thread!!:smickey:

Now I have never seen the Sorcerer one! :sad1: Does anyone have a pic they could post of it?

Thanks for the great tips. I have this puzzle upstairs on a table waiting to be glued and framed or taken apart to be done again.
