?OT...Girl Scout Thin Mints, different?

HI, I AM GS LEADER AND I THINK THEY ARE MAKING THE COOKIES TRANS FAT FREE. I USE TO LOVE TREFOILS (SHORTBREAD) BUT NOW THEY TASTE TERRIBLE! SO I GET SAMOAS AND THE LEMON CHALETS, NOW. I HAVE 2DGK IN SCOUTS SO IN ORDER TO HELP THE TROOP I BUY A CASE FROM EACH FOR THE GIFT OF CARING (WE GIVE THEM TO THE MILITARY) IF THEY KEEP CHANGING THE TASTE I GUESS I'LL JUST BUY MORE COOKIES FOR THE TROOPS INSTAED OF FOR ME!:confused3

Girl Scouts are having a tough cookie season! They have a new baker and unfortunately, your complaint has been common. In our area there have been hundreds of people asking for replacents. What a pain...

A Girl Scout Leader (who is happy she opted NOT to sell cookies this year!)

Wow! I had no idea a troop could opt out of the selling of the cookies. Here, they don't sell until spring. The pressure the girls in this area are put under to sell cookies is incredible. They spend hours and hours on the phone calling people that they only get in touch with this time of year, going door to door. The pressure the troops put on the girls to sell more than last year is stress inducing for the girls and the families. The girls or their parents are never told it is optional but instead are told they are expected to sell $xxx amount of cookies the other option is to not sell the cookies but then the family is expected to donate that set amout of money to the GS. Then there is the issue that the troops from what I have been told by the GS moms only get a small percentage for all their work. The cookie sale and other smaller fundraisers are the reason I did not sign my girls up for GS even though I was one as a kid. I assume that the leaders must know that the cookie sales are opt in but the certainly don't relay that to the families involved.

Usually it's the leader and how many trips they want to take that decides how many cookies they sell in order to be able to afford what they want to do. We get .40 a box profit (or .50 if the girls all sell to a certain level) that changed last year with our council change, we always got .50 before. The prizes the girls got were pathetic. They had to sell like 250 boxes for a T-Shirt.

Girl Scout Cookie Mom here. You probably got a different baker. There are two bakers in the US allowed to bake girl scout cookies. We used the other one from the one we have been this year and I noticed the exact same difference in the thin mints, so that's probably what happened. The way you would tell for sure is what were the names of the other cookies...

if Peanut Butter Patties are now called Tagalongs
if Carmel Delites are now called Samoas
if Shortbreads are now called Trefoils

then you switched bakers too.

OMG, so glad you posted this as now I know I am not going crazy! Way back when I sold cookies we sold samoas, trefoils, Tagalongs. Then as an adult I noticed the name change, then recently I noticed we were back to our old names...so it was jsut different bakers the troops around here were using?

Samoas aka Carmel DeLights are my weakness.:goodvibes

HI, I AM GS LEADER AND I THINK THEY ARE MAKING THE COOKIES TRANS FAT FREE.

Our cookies have been trans-fat free for the last two years, and the Trefoils are still pretty darn good to me! We must have different bakeries. I'm bummed that they're discontinuing the All Abouts - those are really popular here!

When is cookie season? no one ever comes to our door so I have to try to hunt them down! Is it time?! If it matters I am in Oregon

Had to jump in on this one. We are in the middle of selling cookies and ours are the Carmel Delites, Peanut Butter Patties, etc. They are awful. Our area swtiched a few years ago and while I still order to support the cause, overall the cookies are hard and don't taste as good even when they are fresh. Someone in my DH's office sells cookies in the spring and they have SAMOAS!!!! and TAG ALONGS!!!! so as terrible as it sounds I look forward to the cookies that I get from North Jersey!!!
Enjoy!!!

What you should be selling now are Fall sales- candys and nuts, the cookie sales are in feb.

Most products are trans-fat free, they only just started advertising it a few years ago because the nation was on a "health kick". So many items have always been trans-fat free, it just wasn't always advertised.

PS BRING ON THE PEANUT BUTTER PATTIES. :lovestruc :cloud9:

Does anyone know if the keebler grasshoppers have transfats?

Girl Scout cookies are now trans-fat free. .

Bleech.... We don't eat em cause they're healthy...

I recently bought a roll of pillsbury cookie dough (chocolate chip) and they're trans free now too... and taste truly awful....

Guess i have to go back to baking cookies once and awhile from scratch:scared1: (oh the humanity)

I know, I know, I'm really not a health nut, but my doctor's orders are no trans-fats. It's driving me crazy!
