?OT...Girl Scout Thin Mints, different?

I am so glad our area hasn't changed bakers. We still have the thin mints in the clear sleeve that taste great from the freezer and also the sinful samoas.

Girl Scout Cookie Mom here. You probably got a different baker. There are two bakers in the US allowed to bake girl scout cookies. We used the other one from the one we have been this year and I noticed the exact same difference in the thin mints, so that's probably what happened. The way you would tell for sure is what were the names of the other cookies...

if Peanut Butter Patties are now called Tagalongs
if Carmel Delites are now called Samoas
if Shortbreads are now called Trefoils

then you switched bakers too.

I'm confused. We have Tagalongs, Samoas, and Trefoils, just as we've always had, but our Thin Mints are still in the clear package and taste the same. It sounds like you're saying the baker who produces Tagalongs, et al is the one who puts the Thin Mints in foil, but that's not true in our case (ours are from Little Brownie).

I guess my GS cookies should be arriving any day now. Oh, how I love the thin mints. I hope ours haven't changed.
I have no idea how many boxes I ordered, so many sweet girls stop by house. :goodvibes

My DD11 sells Girl Scout cookies and I also noticed a difference in flavor this year - I thought both the Thin Mints and the Thanks-a-lots had a waxy taste to the chocolate. The Lemonades, however, are still excellent.

Our cookies come from abc bakery - which I could not help noticing has a symbol on its box that looks like a Mickey Head Icon made out of three cinnaspins cookies! There, back on topic!

I have only worked with Little Browine. I have tried ABC and to be honest... I don't like them as well, but the truth is it's probalby what you "got used to" LOL!

(When I was an active volunteer I would go to the convention and they had both bakers there giving out samples so we "comparison tasted" LOL!)

Ours were not as good as well, thanks for the Andes recipe and the Grasshopper suggestion!!!

We use ABC as I am the cookie chair for our troop and we have the names of Carmel delights, lemons, PB sandwich, and shortbread. Our Thin mints are in silver wrappers. We're located in Mass. My parents who live in CT, just two ours , and bought from a great niece, have the different names and they didn't have lemon, but did have a sugar free chocolate in place our our 100 calorie pack (which were awful)

LOL, What a shock to see 2 pages on the Thin Mint thread this morning! I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only one who noticed changes. After reading all the posts, I just looked at my box in the freezer and it is ABC, so that must be the difference this year. We have always had a clear sleeve thin mint, so that was my first surprise.
I would never think about complaining or asking for a new box...sheesh! They weren't that bad, and I know I'm helping out the girl scouts. The ones I ordered were from another city, so I will check out my local groups and see who they bought from for comparison tasting ....LOL

Our council used little brownie bakers this year, we went back to the original names this year from when I was in Scouts. I like the traditional Trefoil, Tagalong names etc.... Our thin mints are good but our Somoas are now so much better this year than last!

ABC mints are in foil, LLB were in clear sleeves. LLB has the neat names...Tags, Samoas, Trefoils, Do Si Dos...yeah, I miss them! The Lemonades are good though and LLB never made those, I sure don't miss the Cafe Cookies from LLB either!

That what DD's troup switched to this year...LLB and the cookies are great. I ordered numerous boxes of Samoas. I want to try and freeze some but I have a feeling they won't last long with me digging into them.

I just wish mine would get here.

My kids keep trying to get me to buy from the booths, but I already ordered, and I don't want to end up with an abundance of GS cookies, especially if ours end up being the not fabulous ones.

I did break down and buy some Keebler Grasshoppers to tide us over though. They were on sale 2 pkgs. for $3.00 here. Pretty good!
It'll be quite a kick if we end up liking the Keeblers better than the real deal though won't it?
:rotfl:

The baker that goes along with the thin mints in the clear package is Little Brownie. I was just saying that if your packaging changed and the names of the other cookies changed then your council hired the other baker.

I only ate 2 Samoas and YUCK....the rest of them can go in the trash if no one else wants them in the house...LOL I think I'll go back to buying the Little Debbie Coconut Cookies, and the Grasshoppers down the cookie aisle.

This year we bought almost 20.00 worth and really we didn't care for any of them like we have in the past. Normally we would have eaten them all by now, but we still have all of them except 1 box of Trefoils.

Our council switched from Little Brownie Bakers to ABC this year. I normally would have bought cafe cookies and sugar free chocolate cookies, but they're not even offered by ABC bakery. I haven't gotten my cookies yet, but I did eat a few of my mom's thin mints (in the foil package), and they weren't as good as the ones from LBB. Not bad enough to keep me from eating them though!
This is the first year in about 5 years that I haven't been a troop leader. Just too many changes with all the councils going through realignment and everything. Now I'm really glad I didn't do it, I can't imagine dealing with customers wanting their cookies replaced!

I love my Thin Mints so much, I made my two Princesses join Girl Scouts. Oh, and I'm the leader! :lmao:

Did you try the Dairy Queen Thin Mint Blizzard yet? It's only out during the month of July, so hurry. I thought it was okay, but Dryer's Girls Scout Thin Mint Cookie ice cream is way better. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Have fun with your "new" troop!

OMG I can't believe your Daisy is sitting in a Thin Mints box!!!!! That is too cute!!!

I attended a leaders meeting tonight at our local council.

2009 there will no longer be All Abouts (shortbread with chocolate on the bottom). I really don't know who made that decision, those were a very popular cookie. :confused3

The Lemon Chalets will be shaped in a round size, due to breakage in the rectangle shape.

A new caramel cookie, named Dulche' Deliche' will debut.

All other cookies will remain the same.
