We picked a 10 year old girl who wants a toy or game off our church tree. Any ideas? We'd like to spend around $20.

I got my daughter a really cool "deal or no deal" electronic game at Target. It was $22 (I think, or about that) and it takes 4 AA batteries that you would want to add too probably. I thought it was cool, because she can play by herself or with up to 4 players.

Not my favorite thing- but how about a Tamaogtchi and an extra set of batteries for it (they are like discs). They are very popular in our school grades 3,4,5... It might be nice to have a "cool" or "in" toy.

Was there a coupon or something? It's showing at $29.99.

I know that it's "the thought that counts" but whatever you get, please attach a gift receipt. Target gives them out easily at the checkout line, as does ToysRUs.

A 10 year old girl might not like electronics or the latest fad things (I know mine doesn't), especially if this is the only gift she'll be receiving. A $20 giftcard to Target with a small (under $3) Holiday candy or craft or cute socks (with the gc inside) would tickle pink many a 10-year old girl.

I would suggest a gift card too or a gift with a receipt attached to it. My DD is that age and wanted the Littlest Pet Shop handheld game and she loves My Dream Life, it's her favorite game, but it goes on to a TV to play it.

This is a great idea. My 9 year old had her "friends" birthday party yesterday and she got a gift card to Michaels, a gift card to Target, and a gift card to Walmart in addition to a number of toys etc. She was most excited by the gift card to Michaels!

Oh darn-it. It must have been on sale when I bought it.

The gift card is a good idea, but I would just worry that maybe the kid wouldn't have anything fun to play with on Christmas day. Plus, if the parent is struggling, it might get spent on toilet paper and laundry soap. I know that families have needs, but the whole point is to give a kid something that they wouldn't have gotten.

You have to remember with angel tree people sometimes it is difficult to get out to the store/shopping. Some have to rely on public transportation or get rides from family members. Some foster parents don't drive.. (I've seen that in some instances)

So a gift card is great and well intentioned, but remember they can't get out as easily sometimes. I'd hate to get a gift card and not be able to use it because of transportation issues.

As for a game:

I would steer a away from anything TV/DVD based==like a Scene It game.
My daughter is on the tomboyish side and likes some electronics but not all. She does like music though. A portable CD player would be a great idea (a nice one!). I would love to say a cheaper MP3 player, but there is a computer accessibility issue.

A toy like Polly Pocket would be fun--my daughter likes that still. The Bratz Ice princesses set is very nice, and totally NON HOOTCHIE! The doll is very cute and dressed appropriately.

As for a game, lets see: My daughter got a Thats so Raven game that she plays. She also got Mystery date which was pretty lousy in my opinion.

My kids like Cadoo. Its wonderful for all types of learning.

I've bought my dd9 a lot of arts and craft type things this year. Today at Joann's Fabric I found a set of four glitter pens which in which you fill the tube with water and add the glitter and sequins (provided in the kit). It was on clearance for only $3.49!! :cool1:

Also I plan on buying a latch-hook rug. Just remember, the little tool (the latch?) doesn't come with the kit.
Also, what about a disposal camera (less than $10.00) and then a CVS gift card (to pay for the developing)

How about a small gift basket with lip gloss, body lotions, etc. I've seen on either this board or another that BBW has a coupon out where you get a whole gift set for very little money.

I agree that a toy is better than a gift card alone.

She requested a toy or game, but the gift reciept is a good point. :thumbsup2

My 10 year old likes Polly Pockets, Littlest Pet Shop, she is into electonics so she likes the little handheld games like tomagotchi. As far as games, she likes the Cranium games, but also the classics like monopoly, Sorry, Life, Twister, etc.

How about the 20Q game? My 10 DD loves it. I think I have seen it for $10-$15. Also, she loves anything with High School the Musical on it too.

8. Doodle bear
9. Some DVDs
