OT Gameboy DS important if you bought one for Christmas

Plug it in and set it up and check it....There is a pixel problem with the first shipment of DS's.


Some have bad pixels .... the first one I bought had one bad pixel right in the ver center of the screen. These bad pixel will only be on the bottom screen the one that has touch control.


I took it back to targets and got the last one they had left and it is fine.


It does not affect gameplay and if the store where you bought it is out just keep it and return it later when they get more in. But I think I would make sure the Dept manager knows you have a defective unit and will be returning it.

Nintendo knows about this defect and will also replace your unit.

Nintendo has went ahead and posted an official statement through their customer support emails:

"With a small number of Nintendo DS screens, one or two dots on the screen may appear to be "stuck" on a particular color, such as white or red. This effect is caused when a particular pixel (the dots that make up the screen) is not working properly, even with the high quality standards set by LCD manufacturers. You will find this situation is common in many LCD devices, (PC monitors, televisions, cell phones, etc.).
It's important to understand that this issue will remain limited to the pixels you have already noticed. The problem will not get any worse and you should not expect to see the problem in any other areas of the screen.

We suggest that you use your system for a few weeks to determine whether this interferes with your enjoyment of game play. If, after using your system for awhile, you feel that this tiny dot is too distracting, the Nintendo DS does carry a one-year warranty. We are happy to inspect and, if necessary, fix your system at no charge within the warranty period."

Thus, it appears Nintendo is doing the correct thing in tackling this problem head-on from the start. If you are in need of assistance, or would like to know more about this tiny pixel aberration, check out Nintendo's customer service site.


I would try and take it back to the store I purchased in first.
