What are your thoughts on the school year round concept? With the Roberta Bondar school having already started up for the year and having such a large waiting list to get in (100 students) are you in favour of year round school? As a teacher I am in favour of it. I'd like to hear how parents feel.

Absolutely NOT:
IMHO for my kids, Summer is the time for them to PLAY PLAY PLAY. That being said, during the summer, I do spend about 2 hours/day Mon-Fri with the kids doing academics but we are usually finished by 11 am. During summer family holidays/ day camp / special outings days etc. we totally skip the academics so we end up doing academics about half of the summer vacation days.
I'm not saying that I am against school year round, this is just what works best for our family.

I'm with you mickey65. When they did a vote for our local school I wanted it, however it did not go over. One of the few reasons it did not go thru was a concern of the heat in the school during the summer months. There are already some schools in Durham and York Region who are doing the modified calendar year.
I'm not concerned about the kids having 2 months off in the summer. I believe they need continually learning to keep up with the workload of the curriculum. Just my 2 cents!

I like the idea of the kids having separate little vacations all year that the "year round" schooling would give. There are also the kids that really suffer with 2 months off academically wise. Those kids spend a good deal of time in September trying to re-learn last year's work. However, where I am unsure is as my kids are starting to get older my oldest is starting to be at the age for a summer job. So for kids needing to earn money for university or just to get some extra $- the year round schooling would not be good for the summer job thing...just some thoughts...
