OT: fridge with freezer on the bottom?

We got a Samsung french door fridge about 6 months ago and LOOOOOOOVE it!
The freezer drawer has two drawers, so we put every day items (waffles, ice cream, breakfast stuff) in the top part, and veggies, meat, etc. in the bottom drawer. The freezer drawers fit everything from our old side-by-side PLUS everything from our small chest freezer. So we were pretty impressed.

Question: can younger kids reach the stuff in the fridge okay with the freezer on the bottom? Right now our lower shelf is where we keep the kid's snacks and fruit.

The model we have has a drawer at the bottom when you open the french doors, and that is where we keep the kids snacks and juiceboxes. perfect for even my 4 year old to reach.

Love my freezer on the bottom. Hate my Kenmore though. I have only had it for 4 yrs and it is already dying. Look up reviews before you buy from Sears. I found out that mine is a major complaint. When I have to replace I will probably buy another freezer on the bottom model, but will buy LG most likely.

I love our drawer on the bottom, have had it about 18mos now and still love it. I have the kind that has 2 drawers, which I think is great. That way nothing can get buried too far. I'm not sure I'd like it as much with one deep drawer.

In March we bought a new fridge, freezer on the bottom, we opted for the one door on top. The french door with freezer on the bottom seemed to have less storage on the doors.

We've had ours for 3-4 years now and I love it. We also have a deep freeze in the garage, so only the stuff we're using right now is in the bottom freezer, along with the ice maker. I'm really short and that may play a part in my love for my fridge, but I'll never go back. I love not having to stand on my tippy-toes to look in the freezer or pulling out a stool to dig something that's hidden in the back. The lowest level is where we put DD's snacks, water and juice boxes; she's never had a problem reaching whatever she needs.

My only complaint is that it is really too big for the space it's in, but that's more because this house was designed for a small (tiny) fridge. My DH's only request was that a pizza box be able to fit in the fridge, and that it have an icemaker. We were able to find a fridge we both like, and I don't ever plan on buying one with a freezer on the top again.

We replaced our side by side a few years ago with freezer on the bottom and one door on the top. We actually preferred it over French doors because the space on top works better and it is easier to get things out with one big door rather than the two smaller ones.

We have a GE profile in stainless steel and are very happy with it.

I have a Maytag Fridge with french doors and the freezer drawer on the bottom. We love it. My only "issue" with it is the freezer drawer is a little small. But, having said that, we use a lot of frozen foods and we also have a freezer in the garage so its not a big deal. It might be something to think about if you use a lot of frozen stuff and don't have another freezer.

I agree with the pp who said they like not having to stand on their tippy toes to look for stuff in the freezer. It is definately short people friendly!!!

Thanks for all of the opinions! I headed over to Sears yesterday to look at the one I was thinking about, and I really liked it! I ended up ordering it online though, since I was able to get 8% Bing Cash Back. I also got free delivery and haul away (after rebate), and I'll get the delivery guys to give me a recycling slip and then I can get an additional $50 rebate from our electric company. So, all in all, I paid $999.99 for the fridge - $80 Bing Cash Back - $50 electric company rebate = $869.99 + free delivery after rebate. Not too bad since the original price was $1999.99. Too bad I still have to pay states sales tax.

As an added plus, this is one of the very few fridges that is available in the Bisque color. All of the rest of our appliances are bisque and were supplied by the builder and are relatively new...so now my fridge will finally match.

No way!! I was even excited over a new vacuum cleaner, so you should have seen me about the fridge!!!

Thank you OP! I have been looking at this fridge for about a year and just could not justify $2000 for a new one. I stopped at Sears and put it on layaway to buy enough time for DH to move the cupboard up a few inches and still lock in that price! My current fridge is almost 18 years old and I know a new one is going to be necessary.

And of course you should be excited, it is a huge purchase that will be in your house for many years to come.

We're lucky that the fridge is going to fit perfectly with our current cabinet setup. There's only about an inch to spare on the side though, so the delivery guys might have a hard time getting it in there.
