OT for flying into NYC

After reading through this thread, I am a little bit worried. My 16 yo dd and I are flying in and out of EWR in Aug. (first timers) Why does everyone discourage using this airport? Is there anything we should be aware of? I think we are going to take a shuttle into times square, instead of attempting the train system. We are going to stay at a hotel near the airport so we dont have to navigate into NYC at night. any suggestions as to what time we should reserve the shuttle for on a Tuesday morning to minimize traffic congestion?

I've flown in and out of EWR a hundred times or more, and don't understand what the fuss is about. They have the security thing down pat--you'll seldom wait more than 2-3 minutes. Terminal "C" has been redone and is great with a ton of places to eat.

Now that much of the construction is done, traffic flows fairly smoothly. I'd take EWR over JFK or LGA any day.

I have to agree with Ducklite I don't know what the fuss is about either. EWR is a busy airport and the planes can get backed up causing you to have a wait on the tarmac. The same thing happens at JFK and LGA.
