OT - Flying out of Boston

I know people are discouraging you about driving into the airport and using the Park n Fly (except beattyfamily) but for me the peace of mind of being at the airport (Holiday Inn) the night before, knowing my car is about as safe as it can be and being able to get back home as hasslefree as possible, it just works. Also the new tunnel to Logan from the Mass Pike makes it very painless!! We do from the Cape Cod end. Did you get any prices for Park n Fly rates? I have never used Priceline but my understanding is that you cannot use them for Park n Fly. I also am not willing on a vacation to chance where I wind up.....the travel part is not so much fun anyways and I like to make it as easy as possible.

The lowest price I have found for the parl & fly is about $150. As far as chancing where I wind up if I use priceline - as I mentioned, I think that the Hilton & the Hyatt are the only two 4* hotels in that zone, so I think I'd be okay on that. BOth of those are on airport property, & so will be very easy to get to take the hotel shuttle to the terminal in the morning. But, it would cost an arm & a leg to park there, so we would probably take Logan Express if I did that. I think that Logan Express has secure parking, so the car should be just as safe. The down side is mainly that it would take us a bit longer to travel, since we would be driving to Framingham, taking Logan Express to the terminal, and then have to get to our hotel for the night.

Gee - can you tell I'm completle torn as to what to do? :confused3

Thanks again for all of the replies. I'm still debating between just doing the park sleep & fly, or trying to get the Hilton or Hyatt at the airport & using Logan Express. I just don't know how much of a hassle it would be, to park at Logan Express, go to the airport & then have to catch the shuttle to the hotel (I'm assuming Logan Express only drops off at the terminals). The Hilton is actually connected to the treminals via a skywalk, so we could always walk from there, but to get to the Hyatt I think we'd have to take the hotel shuttle. Has anyone done this?

Obviously when we return home it would be simpler, because we won't be staying over at a hotel - just take Logan Express back to our car.

Parking at Logan Express and then trying to get to a Logan hotel sounds like too much of a hassle (and probably will cost just as much as park and fly) to me.

I think you should price everything out (Logan Express/parking at Logan/Logan hotels etc...) and then decide if it's worth the hassle to possibly save a few bucks.

I still think you should just do the park and fly since you want to come in the night before so then you have a place to sleep and a place to keep your car and their shuttle to get back and forth and you'll waste the least amount of time (and possibly money). IMHO.

Priceline would make me way too nervous!

Logan Express can get pretty expensive; it's per person. Then you have to pay for the hotel and figure out how to get there. That's a lot of time wasted both ways of your trip.

You're right beattyfamily - I don't think that using priceline & Logan Express will really save all that much (the cost to us for Logan Express would be about $95 plus the cost of the hotel - that's $20 each for 2 adults, the kids are free, and $55 for 5 days parking), and I know it might be more of a hassle to get to the hotel that night. But, I thought that since the Hilton and Hyatt are on the airport property, it might make the actual morning of our flight a bit easier, since we would be so close to the terminals, vs having to take a shuttle from a hotel that's further away...

Yes, the Hilton, and especially the Hyatt would be great! They are very close and also very beautiful hotels but they are expensive. They also have a park and fly package but it's also very expensive too. Believe me I looked into it. My DH even gets a discount at the Hyatt but then we didn't know what to do with our car. So we always stay at Holiday Inn Logan for about $150.

The Holiday Inn Logan is only 5 minutes away. It's very fast. We've stayed there over 5 times now. It's also where all the flight attendants and pilots for Delta stay...that's how close it is. We always ride in on the shuttle with some of them.

You could do economy parking at Logan and stay at the Hyatt (Hyatt has shuttle to the airport). Maybe you could see what that would cost. Then you have a close place for your car and a close hotel. I don't really like the economy parking though because if you go in the winter, your car could be covered in snow and it's a bit further then Central parking to get to (another shuttle to get to it) but it's also much cheaper than Central Parking.

Anyway, good luck in deciding what's best for your family.

Just one more thought here....when I tried staying at both the Hilton and the Hyatt I have to admit I was disappointed. Yes, they are physically closer to the actual airport but in both cases you still have to take a shuttle. The Holiday Inn shuttle comes and goes so many more times than either Hyatt or Hilton. We actually took a cab from the airport to the Hyatt on a return trip since the shuttle took so long to come (cabbie was not happy to lose his place in line....we mega-tipped him to make up for it!!).The room at the Hilton was very small compared to the Holiday Inn also. I am with beattyfamily on this, tried many different ways to do this.....driving up in the am (way too stressful with traffic), limo (very pricey and not always reliable),parking off site....still driving up in stressful traffic....parking onsite at Logan (stressful and more $$ than Holiday Inn) and the 3 hotels mentioned with Park n Fly packages. Hands down the Holiday Inn wins out....least stressful, reasonable price and a very comfortable place to stay. I'll shut up now or you'll start to think I work for Holiday Inn or something!! :rolleyes2

I just double-checked with my dh...he says to stay at the Holiday Inn. It's easy to find, just up Rt. 1 a bit. Getting to Logan is a piece of cake now, with the new tunnel/roadway. Even I drive it and I'm a non-Boston driver.
So, bite the bullet, drive to the Logan Holiday Inn the day before, have a nice peaceful evening and get up and take the stress free shuttle to the terminal in the morning. It's really a much better idea. You can't put a pricetag on peace of mind and ease of travel.

I have to agree that the Holiday Inn is very convenient. That said for my upcoming trip in 2 weeks they have put their prices at over $200. for the park and fly. Disappointing for us since 2 years ago these dates were only $159.00.
I've been actually considering using priceline for the night before our flight to also try and get the Hilton or Hyatt. And if I did that my thoughts were either using the economy lot or using Logan Express. I'm also considering asking someone to drive me and my boys(Dh works in Boston so he'll just meet us at the hotel) to catch the Logan express (which will only cost me $11) staying at the Hilton/Hyatt then having a airport limo pick us up for our return.
Decisions, Decisions! I just can't make up my mind. I do have a reservation at the Courtyard in South Boston for $179. plus tax (park & fly). This can be canceled up to 6pm on arrival day. According to their location it would take approximate 12 minutes to get to Logan. We'll need to leave the hotel at 6 am for our flight.

Wow sorry my post ended up so long.
