Today, DS7 brings home a project from school. They've read a book called Flat Stanley. In the story, Stanley is flattened by a bulletin board, he isn't hurt, just flattened. His parents fold him up, put him in an envelope & mail him to California. I found the story a little weird, but OK, I'll go with the flow.

DS has created his own Flat Stanley, and the project asks that DS (read me) mail him to a friend or relative that lives some distance from our town. This person is to "take Flat Stanley aruond your town or city during his time with you. Please write about the places Flat Stanley visited and the things you did together. You may also "dress" Stanley in a manner that shows what he did while he was visiting you or that would tell us more about where you live. In your letter you may include information about the weather, location, seasonal activities, and other interesting facts about your location"

Well my dilemma is that our entire family lives within 20 miles of where we live! Any relative that we may have who is some distance away would not be up for the project.

Could any of my fellow DISers help me with Flat Stanley????? I would return the favor! We are headed to Disney again in August - I could send you a postcard for your upcoming visit - or anything else you could think of.

Please PM me if you are interested in hosting Flat Stanley for a visit.

Thanks!
Cindy

I'm not much good to you, since I'm on LI and am staying home this week.

But why not go up to the Fairy Godmothers sticky at the top of the Families Forum and post this there? Or try the "countdown" forum and find someone going next week or the week after.

Good luck! When my son had Flat Stanley, he went to visit Aunt Maryanne in LA.

We're in michigan. You can mail him here, if you like. :thumbsup2

I love the idea & would gladly do it but I see you are from Northern NJ which is where I am from! So I am no help! Where in NJ are you?

Thank you all so much for the quick replies & offers - you guys really are the best. I PMed mnasmom3 - I had DS pick :goodvibes

The Disney Bunch - I sent you a PM

Again, thank you all so much!

Another North Jersey girl..Morris County. My daughter is also doing flat stanley.. but she can take him around and take pics..doesnt have to be mailed. She took my camera the other day and some of the pics were hysterical..I will have to post a few.

ohhh and some more info that you probably want toknow..the female version is flat stacy ;)

Our Flat Stanley stopped off in Missouri after a trip to AZ.!
We are also in NJ and all my kids have done the flat Stanley projects!!

I'm glad you found a place to send Stanley! My son did the same thing last year in 2nd grade. We were able to send Stanley to his great-grandparents in Florida which seemed exotic to a group of 8 year olds from Massachusetts.:rotfl:

My DD had to do a Flat Stanley project last year and we made a bunchies of copies of Stanley...about 20 total. We sent him to celebrities just to see what would happen. We got a big box of suff from the Today Show. It had pictures of all the anchors holding Stanley, a coffee mug, a hat and a shirt. We also got something back from Tubby Smith (University of Kentucky's basketball coach), Harlem Globetrotters, The White House, The Governor of Kentucky, Donald Trump and a few others. Everyone didn't respond but quite a few did. My DD was the hit of her class. Everyone loved seeing the cool stuff she got back. I just googled them until I found an address. It was alot of fun and I would highly recommend it.:goodvibes

:) I'm excited to be *the chosen one*. My kids will love hosting him.

I love Flat Stanley. My kids have never done it, however we have had Flat Stanley and a few of his twins visit over the years. I had more fun taking him places and taking pics than the kids did:laughing:

What a cool idea  to send him off to celebs., would have never thought of that. I will have to remember to pass the tip on.

I hope Stanley has a wonderful trip. To one of the pp, seeing some pics of your adventures with Flat Stanley would be fun.:)

My daughter has been sending her flat self around the world too! It is so much fun to see what adventures they go on! We are headed to WDW in 18 days if he'd like to go with us! We'd love to return the favor to take a flat person on an adventure!

I guess even Stanley needs a bath lol

Oh how cute. DD10 requested he come here to PA LOL.
DD5 wants me to make her one now just to carry around LOL.
If you still need people for Flat Stanley to visit, we would love to host him, and email you pics of the visit too LOL.

How cool is that. The Today Show has always been my favorite morning show. Are you from KY? I'm in Northern KY.

I've never heard of Flat Stanley before but my oldest starts kindergarten next year so now I'll be prepared if this is ever a class project for one of my DD's.
