Anyone out there have a child who started losing teeth this early? My husband has researched and said DD is at the lowest range of normal to be losing her first. Still makes me nervous! Thanks.

It shoudln't make you nervous--how early did she get her baby teeth in after she was born.

Our dentist said that has something to do with it. DD didn't lose her first teeth until 5.5 but her baby teeth took a very long time to come in--she has friends 4 and 4.5 that have lost her teeth. She has some older friends who haven't lost a tooth yet.

Different for different children.

Yes, DD lost her first tooth on a class trip 3 months before she turned 5. I never knew it was loose and was horrified when she came home without it, lol! I immediately got on the internet to find out if she was ok! :rotfl:

Turns out, she just looses teeth a little earlier than some. It is perfectly normal. If you are concerned, contact her dentist.

My DD lost her first tooth right before she turned 5. It's normal for them to loose teeth anywhere between 4 and 7 for the first tooth. How exciting that the tooth fairy will make a visit in the near future! My DD lost her first tooth at DW so we had tinkerbell pay a visit instead of the tooth fairy. She LOVED it!

Nothing to be nervous about, perfectly normal :goodvibes I'd be way more upset if it had been knocked out(that's what happened to my DS when he was 3--he and the dog met in a dark hallway--DS lost 2 teeth, Minky lost 1. they both looked pretty pitiful  )

My DS lost 4 teeth at 18mths. Okay so he knocked his out and it was a complete nightmare for mommy. Poor kid is going to have toothless pictures for many many years.

I'm sure its normal. My DD just lost her first at 5 1/2. I was surprised because I thought that was early but no its not. She took a long time for hers to come in as a baby so I was thinking it would be longer.

You may want to call her ped and just talk with a nurse. Its better to get reassurance from the pros!

Yes, it is normal. I freaked a little when my oldest lost his first tooth at four years old. Then my second son didn't lose his first one till he was seven years old. So of course I worried that he was too late :rotfl: My third son is going to be six in a couple of days and hasn't lost a tooth yet. I'm finally not worried at all :)

My DD lost her first one just after she turned 4. But then, she got her first teeth as a baby at 4 months.

On the other hand, she didn't walk until she was 15 months old...all kids are different. And let me tell you....I'd much rather have the early teether than the early walker!! Boy does life change once they're mobile!

My kids go in pretty reguarly to the dentist about every 6 months and each time she xrays the teeth she tells me when they will likely come out. So far she has been right on target, so when my DD started losing her teeth right after she turned five it wasnt as scary!

Thought I would chime in with an official dentist post. Perfectly normal in my professional opinion. Remember, just like growth charts and so many other things that there is a great big range of normal out there! And be prepared that the rest of the teeth will probably follow this early schedule. Just think, in another year the tooth fairy might be increasing her payout so you may have just gotten off easy!

1 tooth down, 19 more to go...HTH!

The same thing happened to me too. DS came home from preschool one day with a loose tooth. I was sure that he had knocked it loose at school (he mentioned bumping his mouth on something) and had him checked out by our dentist. As it turned out, it wasn't from the bump at all. The x-ray showed the next tooth ready and waiting to come in! His second loose tooth came a few months later. Oh, and he wasn't early getting his baby teeth - he followed the "schedule" for almost every tooth!

The best part - he had both front teeth missing at Christmas - so I have the cutest picture of him with the missing teeth and I sing that little song in my head every time I look at it..."All I want for Chtistmas is my two front teeth, my two front teeth, yes my two front teeth...!"

My son pulled his first 2 teeth at 4 1/2, the dentist just said he was on the earlier end, but some kids do that! He started Kindergarten w/o any front teeth too.

My dd was the same way! She got her first tooth at 4 months (I was bf her then too...OUCH), and she lost her first tooth at 4 years old...before she even started preschool. Alot of people would ask me, "what happened to her teeth?" They just assumed she knocked them out in an accident...lol.

She is 7 years old now and has all of her baby teeth gone. 2 of her teeth are coming in crooked because her mouth is so tiny.

On the other hand, my nephew was 12 and he didn't lose ANY baby teeth yet. The dentist had to pull them (not all at once, though...lol). He was so mad that his much younger cousin was losing teeth and he wasn't.

My dd also lost a tooth at WDW, she was glad the tooth fairy made it. :)

DS was 4 1/2 when he lost his first tooth. He kept telling me it was loose and I thought "how cute, he's pretending to be a big kid". Then one day we were at a restaurant and it fell out -- I was shocked. I was also in big trouble because I didn't have any small bills put aside for the tooth fairy.

My initial reaction was that it was strange that he lost it sooo early because everyone else in our family lost them really late (I was 7 1/2). I asked my pediatrician who looked at me like I was nuts and gently pointed out that since he's adopted family history doesn't really apply -- OOOPS, forgot about that. :lmao:

Anyway, both my ped and his dentist say that 4 1/2 is totally normal.

Thank you all for your posts. That's what I love about the DIS, not only do we share a common love but we are a community family too! The tooth came out two days ago and DD had her first visit from the Tooth Fairy. And good golly! The price for teeth have seriously increased from when I lost teeth! Thanks again everyone! :jumping1:
