So as I mentioned, Lou and I were invited to be in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in South Boston this past weekend. It was really rainy, but the good thing was that we were in a Duck Boat, so we were some of the driest people - and the safest if there was a sudden flash flood.
Our Duck was the "Charlie River," and we had a great driver, Mike. He was very funny.. rather like a Jungle Cruise skipper.
The South Boston Historical Society had gotten 1000 of these necklaces, not knowing that the new rule this year was you couldn't throw things from the float. Since it was incredibly awful out, they were just going to save them for next year, but a bunch of the kids (not me, I had to take photos!) offered to walk part of the route, passing them out.
Lou was one of the people to offer, so he and a few others got off. We were the only kids from our class to show up, but another student came - one of the ones from the Washington trip.
Even though it was an awful day, there were still a lot of people who came out to watch the parade:
Lou, after getting throughly soaked, looked like a greaser - I was surprised that he didn't get kicked out of the parade - a cop actually came over and yelled at him, asking him what he was doing - he didn't have anything showing that he was with our group, so he had to explain he was one of the ones passing out beads. I was about to call out that he was with us, but the cop accepted his explanation, and left.
We were supposed to go out to dinner after this, but we were both soaked, so we went home, changed, and then came back to eat. We went to Boston Burger Co., and it was delicious.
Lou got the Kitchen Sink: fried egg, ham, bacon, grilled onions, peppers, and mushrooms, smothered in american, cheddar, and provolone with BBC sauce
I got the Artery Clogger
- Deep fried, beer battered burger topped with bacon, american cheese, and BBQ sauce.
After that, we went and saw Alice in Wonderland - it wasn't bad! I didn't like it as much as I had hoped, the secondary characters i found more appealing than the primary ones, but it was still good. And there were Hidden Mickeys in it!
