So we are getting a nice big collection of DVD's and my almost 2 year has now figured out how to open the cases and get the DVD's out! AHHH!!! How did you handle this situation with your kids??? My husband suggested I take all of the DVD's out and put them in something separate but leave the cases so she can still "pick" out what movie to watch.

I saw this DVD flip storage thing on the Disney movie Club site. Does anyone own one that can tell me more about it?? I thought that might be option as I could put that up high. I thought about those CD books but decided against that as I think they cause more scratches.

Thanks in Advance!
Ashley

We keep all of ours in those CD Books and have never had a problem with them getting scratched. :thumbsup2

We decided to divide ours up. The non-kid DVDs are in canvas buckets by category (drama, action, comedy) and sitting on a small shelving unit in the hall closet (located within family room). We have a chain on the door to keep kids from bothering the DVDs and other things in that closet.

We took the kids' DVDs to the upstairs loft they use for play most mornings and on weekends. The DVDs are inside an upper cabinet within the media wall system in the loft. If they want to watch a DVD downstairs, we take them upstairs and open the cabinet for them to select a DVD.

I solved this problem 7 years a go with a DVD Jukebox (was about $400 from Sony).. last year, i solved it again with a WDLive (which allows you to copy the movies from dvd to the device and store them on a built in harddrive.) for $129 from best buy!

We use a cd binder; my son (who was 2.5 when we started this) can recognize most dvd's. Even some with no pics on the top he can recognize the style of writing on it. Works great, easy to keep out of reach.

Our DVDs were entirely untouchable for DS for quite awhile. He had almost no forbidden spots in the apartment/condo/house, but the DVD area was one of the biggies.

Even now as he approaches 6 he is not allowed to take them out of the cases, as one of his favorites nearly broke b/c of how he was taking it out. He can choose the movie, but then he brings it over and has us take it out.

We did too! I think we got ours (sony also) for around $275 or so. It was one of those deals on amazon where they don't show you the price until you put it in your cart. We have had it probably around 3 years and I don't know how we managed without it! A lot of people are starting to go with computer memory storage and just loading them on. I am not sure what that stuff is my DH is the expert on that and is starting to get ours set up.

It's locked in the spare room. However, the spare room is going to become a baby's room... so I'm tuning in.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I still don't know what I am going to do but for right now I am playing the fighting game that she needs to hand me the case after she picks which one she wants to watch and not open it. If anyone else has any suggestions they would be welcome :)

depending on where your dvds are curently stored, could you add doors and a lock? I had a tv stand (wood from big lots) that I put doors on with a lock just to keep my best freinds kids OUT! It seems to work well.

When we bought our last tv cabinet I bought one that is all wood and can hide everything. Then we installed locks on the doors. Keeps little fingers out of DVDs & the DVD player.

Two really is old enough to learn "no". It is up to you if you want to fight this one or not. Maybe try leaving a few out and firmly tel her NO. If she tries to open it. If she brings it to you, praise her and open it for her to watch.

A simple solution if you are not ready for that might be a piece of scotch tape that you can remove to open it but she can not.

Remember not to pick a battle you are not prepared to win. Either say and inforce NO or make them where she can not open them. There will be lots more of these issues!!!

Hope someone responds to the Disney Movie reward storage bin. I was admiring it too, but couldn't tell exactly what it was from the description. Ultimately, my husband said it looked like it was poor quality from the photo. We have issues w/ the DVDs as well. My kids are not allowed to handle them, but the little one (who is very naughty) doesn't care. I mailed several Disney movies back to Disney thru the replacement program, but I still have several more that need to go too.
