OT: DH won a trip to Vegas!!

Well, trip is a very loose term for what he won, but this morning on the local radio DH won a WOW TRIP TO VEGAS. We leave May 6 at 6pm local time and arrive home om May 7 10am local time - no hotel room!! Just a one night WOW trip - LOL!!

Not sure yet if i am excited It is a very weird prize!!

We are going to get a room for a few hours - I am evil without some sleep even just 2 to 3 hours. But, I am sad that I will not really make it outlet shopping - that is my favorite thing to do in Vegas!! (I guess that saves me money).

So what should I do - one night only?

We are not "club" type people, but we do gamble some. Any thoughts?

I had to read your post several times. You literally won a few hours in the middle of the night in Vegas?

I don't think it'd be worth it to me to accept the price unless it came with concert/show tickets - something I was dying to see.

Completely agree! Seriously, add in a very possible flight delay and you could have very little time.

OK We got more details. EWWW!!! Thr trip home would be leave Vegas at 11 am and get home at 10 pm. So overall we would be in airports and on planes more than in Vegas - FORGET IT!!

So, I did some hunting. If we "miss" the flight home provided by the contest, we can come home on the Saturday for $110!! WOW!! So that means 3 days in Vegas for $110 plus hotel.

Much better.

I won a trip to London and the DBA a couple years back now, and the trip was only for 3-4 days. We figured we probably would never get back to Europe so we called and asked the prize company, could we extend our trip, pay for our hotel expenses past the original date, and catch a flight on a certain date. That way we didn't pay for the RT flights at all or the original trip/prize/hotel. We just picked another hotel and moved to a cheaper one! When I won DH a mountain climbing trip, we decided to see if he could fly out of Cincy airport instead of Md where we were. We have a home in Cincy and we could drive out, stay there, and the kids could stay at my parents. He just drove back to MD after a week at our Cincy home and went back to work, while the kids and I spent the summer at the other house. Anywho, I know there are alot of prize winners who have been able to change their flights to extend their trips. It can't hurt to ask.

There's lots to do on the frugal side of Vegas!

We usually do a lot of hotel sight-seeing. There's always Fremont St and the light show, I did a "cheap" day - I ended up being part of a TV show test group at MGM (back by either Emeril's or Bobby Flay's place - can't remember, not slept since then...) got a free make-over at Victoria's Secret, caught a Beatles tribute at Planet Hollywood (was still the Alladin at the time), grabbed some dinner and headed for McCarren.

We also ALWAYS hit up Voodoo Lounge at the Rio (but it's $20/person to get in). We love the house band. There's always the shark reef at Mandalay Bay. You can check out the tigers at MGM - that's free. Tour Treasure Island (TI) or roam around the Venetian. Madame Tussaud's has a wax museum there that's pretty fun too.

Hope you get "stranded" and miss that flight!

Took a couple of weeks but we got everything in order. The waiver we had to sign stated clearly that if we missed our flight home we were on our own - cool, we are missing our flight home then!!

We are going Wednesday to Saturday and cannot wait!!

Oh, and we finally got the spending money too - $200 each!!

So, it started off as a really stupid prize and made its way to our vacation this year. I am so excited!! Now if only I could winteh Jackpot while I am there.....then it would be off to Disney again!!
