Does anyone know a source for a bathroom vanity for accessibility?
We are redoing our bath by widening door, raising toilet seat and installing
roll-in shower in case our senior parents ever need to move in with us. Neither
are in need of a wheel chair, but I want to welcome them to live with
us permanently when the need arises.

Are there any vanity designs you have used for the
basin? I really do not want just a pedestal sink--it would be nice
to have drawers?
I know that this is not disney related, but this community is very knowledgable and very helpful.

Happy New Year.

We just finished remodeling our daughter's bathroom to include a roll in shower and a totally accessible sink that she can use by herself from her wheelchair. I am posting this from my iPod, so there is not a way for me to add a picture right now. I will add some pictures after the weekend when I have more time.

I am going to move this to the disABILITIES Community Board where it will be totally on topic. And, while you are waiting for more replies, here's a link to a past thread about accessible design:

In cases where there is only a 36” or less width for the sink typically the counter is just mounted with wall cleats and possibly an end panel, with a front skirt.

For wider areas side cabinetry can be relatively standard except, as a special counter height requires.

It is important to remember that if there are any sensory deficits in the legs that all sharp edges are padded and pipes are wrapped to prevent thermal injuries.

We recently completed a bathroom renovation and did a a vanity for my son who is affected by Cerebral Palsy. The agency that I work for recently did an "Accessible Home Renovation Tour" and the pictures of modified bathrooms etc are posted on our website. Our bathroom is the one with the roll in shower and Blue Tile and Floor. The website will give you quite a few ideas. The tour consists of 8 homes that were modified by parents to accomodate their children who use wheelchairs. The website is

These are most helpful. Thank you. Are the places to order online or
did you all use contractors?

Some families used contracters, we did not. The majorty of the plumbing fixtures were from Kohler. We desiged our bathroom/bedroom specifically for our son. Our house is 30 years old and we did not have a lot of room for modifications. A lot of the modifications are not to "code" but they work for our family.

We just did our bathroom over...we added a high toliet, put in a tile shower, grab bars, etc....we put in reg vanity for now but we looked at a kitchen design store. The man there said they can make a sink with pocket doors that will slide in making the vanity access......we didnt have the time to order and for now the vanity since DD does not need the chair at all times. This may be another option for you.
