OT- Dandruff Problem

If the other things don't work, try Nizoral shampoo. It's expensive, but once you get things under control, you only have to use it once every couple of weeks.

Head and Shoulders, Selsun Blue, and the T-Gel didn't do nearly as well.

My son has seborrheic dermatitis on his scalp, more commonly called dandruff. He alternates Nizoral shampoo (ketoconazole 1%) with the CVS version of T-Sal shampoo (salicylic acid 3%). He puts the shampoo on and lets it sit for several minutes before rinsing. I've had him doing this for several years. He saw a dermatologist last month and it's exactly what she said she would tell him to do. She did give him an rx for the Nizoral 2%, but he didn't like how it left his hair looking, so he went back to the OTC Nizoral 1%.

I have eczema on my scalp, and DH gets dandruff in the winter. We have both tried everything, but the best by far for us is condition only hair washing. Sounds strange, but works very well! Try it. I splurge on the Wen, but DH and DD with curly hair both use White Rain Tropical Coconut conditioner from Dollar Tree. Definitely budget. ;) It takes about a week for the scalp to stop producing excess oil(from past shampoo stripping) so you may need to wash every day for the first week.

My Dr told my to use Nizoral. Apply it and do not rinse - sleep with it on your scalp. Ronse in the morning and rewash. I slept with it for three nights and then just used it for about 2 weeks and it cleared me right up.

My hairdresser had told me just a hairdryer would work. She says it is usually caused by a fungus and it usually shows up when on antibiotics. The moisture makes it worse. She recommends taking a hairdryer and throughly drying your hair. If steam is still coming off it's still damp. She said to dry the scalp like this for 1 month and then you can stop and it will be gone. I haven't tried it but it's a fairly cheap trick.

I also recommend T-Gel. It's the only dandruff shampoo that has worked for me. They have a new scent that smells a lot better than the old one.

different types require different treatments as stated. i used to use t-gel with great results. i had an unknown health issue. since being diagnosed i still have issues but found the tgel wasnt working and switched to head and shoulders moisturizing. like stated it can be dryness, oiliness, or even fungus.

also slightly OT but skin conditions can be a signal of a food allergy. if sudden dandruff and dry skin symptoms arise dont overlook them because these allergies can be serious and damaging to the body.

Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo.

As a long ago licensed stylist this is what I had used. :thumbsup2

Also, a key thing is a scalp treatment, Part the hair, and use the small end of a mens styling comb against the scalp. Lay side ways and gently scrape the scalp in a small spot at a time to lift the scaling.

Some of it may be more then dandruff, it could be an exzema.

When doing your hair, shampoo for the scalp condition, and condition for the hair strand needs.

Nizoral was recommended to my DH by a pharmacist. Worked like a charm. He used it for about a month, and has not had a problem since.
