We are finalizing our adoption very soon and I would like to create announcements. We are adopting an older child (5 yo) so I dont want it to be to babyish but I want all our family and friends to know the adoption is final and he is finally ours. Any ideas on how to make a creative announcement?

We adopted our daughter when she was 5. I designed our adoption announcements. They are about 4x6 when folded. On the front I have a large picture of a tree. In the top left corner is my daughter's name. At the bottom of the page is this poem:

We've added to our family tree a stronger one to make
A child from another plant has become our new namesake
Just as a limb is grafted from one tree into another
It alters and improves the plant making it unique and like no other
Our family tree has been improved, adoption made this so
For love much more than bloodlines is what makes us thrive and grow
We chose to share our life and love and all the joys to come
Our family tree has blossomed with the arrival of our cherished one

Inside:
top half is a picture of our daughter playing in the backyard on her first trip home.

bottom half says:

John and Jane Doe are proud to announce the homecoming of their daughter, Suzie Q

Born: January 1, 2000

Home: June 1, 2005

Under that is a picture of the three of us together.

Hope this helps! Congratulations, Mom!

When we finalized ours, we used Changing Moments (a lady we met on an adoption group site) http://www.changing-moments.com/

Her prices were good and buy the time I figured in buying paper and ink and envelops and doing them in color, it was worth it to me to just order them. She was GREAT and she did such a good job....sending me out many different layouts so I could decide on exactly what I wanted for the final card.

Oh and she did have a service where she designed them and then sends you the file and you can print them all off at a photo place? Even if you don't use her...maybe you could get some ideas? Oh and we did ours near Christmas so she kind of combined them so we could send out Christmas cards and announcements all in one LOL

Congrats on the adoption :) Older kids don't get adopted enough....we adopted 3 :) It wasn't easy....but we don't regret it at all!

Congratulations!
I'd used purplestork.com for my birth announcement as well as last 2 Xmas cards. They have a wide variety of designs that can be used for any occasion and they are wonderful to work with. They will alter and change a design to suit your needs. I've been very happy with the results.

There are many samples for ideas on what to do. What I really like is with every order I've given so far I've gotten a free 8X10 of the card / announcement - a great keepsake to frame at home.

Congratulations !!!!

I forget where we ordered ours, but it showed the typical "stork flying over the rooftops with a package" picture. I though it was cute, because Brian was flying to JFK from Korea.

And, like the pp, we included the first picture we had of him.

My sister used mandysmoon.com for her adoption annoucements. My nephew was adopted from Guatemala. If you look through the website they have announcements for all different ages and nationalities. I ordered 1st Communion thank notes for my son from this site.

Congrats on your adoption!

Congrats! We went with www.babyfreshdesigns.com

She was really easy to work with. Got back super fast with email proofs. I easily customized ours to fit the simple adoption wording we wanted.
Plus I was able to order as many as I wanted, not just in packs of 25 which saved us alot of money.

Hi just wanted to say CONGRATS!!! We adopted our daughter a year ago and it has been the best year of our lives!!

I made our annoucments myself with Snapfish. If you Google "adoption anoucments" you can find a ton of sayings!!

Don't forget to check out places like Shutterfly and Snapfish - they are offering more and more these days. You could create a simple card with his photo on the front, and on the inside you can have them print whatever you want. They do offer the traditional birth announcements, but you said you were looking for something less "baby." I think a photo card would be a great idea - Everyone would love to get a look at your son!

Congratulations!

I don't have a suggestion for an announcement, I just wanted to say congradulations!:)

Congrats! How wonderful for all of you!
One saying I have always loved was "God Blessed the day we found you.":lovestruc

Congratulations!

We made our own adoption announcements on photoshop and then made 5x7 prints at Wolf Camera.

I created the annoucements for our children as well but I don't remember exactly what they said. I know I looked at a lot of sites that charged and modified them to fit our family.

Congrats on your adoption. Like Ratpack DH and I have adopted 3 "older" children and it was the best decision we ever made. There are times that DH teases me that we just had to get a girl because dd can be handful but when she looks up at you with those big blue eyes and says I love you. :lovestruc I makes it all worth while.
