Guess what?

We won two tickets to anywhere Westjet flies!!!

So we have decided to fly to Charlottetown and tour PEI for 5 days in July.

What I need to know is:

Good restaurants.
Good hotels or B and B's ( rather not stay at super 8 type motel)
Must sees.

Not asking for much am I?

Oh...and it will be our 10th (holy cow) anniversary.
TIA for any help.
Brenda

Hi Brenda,

It really depends on what your likes are, money you want to spend, what you really want to do.

PEI is a more laid back place for a vacation. You can stay at the Charlottetown Hotel or the Prince Edward in downtown Charlottetown. They are probably two of the nicest hotels. Because I from there I really haven't stayed at a B&B but there are so many. You can go to www.gov.pe.ca and there is a link there for visitors has everything from places to stay (with pricing) and things to do.

I have been in Ontario for 4 years now and I miss home so much. One of my favorite things to do when I go home is go to the Drive in. It might not sound like much but it is still set up as a 60's drive in and we love to go one night through the week when there is not much going on.

The tour guides will tell you the Cavendish or Brackey are the best beaches. They are nice but the are a Prov Park and they charge you to get in. The two best beaches in my opinion are Tracadie (close to Brackley) but you don't have to pay. You can dive off the shore into the water and Basin head. Both of these beaches are going to be filled with locals but they are the best.

I could go on for ever so if you have any particular question PM me and I'll do my best to answer. Like I said I don't really know what type of vaction your looking for so It is hard to narrow it down. The one thing I will say is if you golf this is the place for you. Drive 10 min in any direction and you will find a golf course. LOL

I hope you have fun!!!

Hi Brenda

The Confederation Centre in Charlottetown always hosts plays in the summer. Many tourists like to see Anne of Green Gables. A new one last year which is coming back this year is Canada Rocks! the hits musical revue. You can find more info on www.confederationcentre.com

There a quite a few restaurants in downtown Charlottetown. Olde Dublin Pub, The Pilot House and Darcy MacGees to name a few.

Don't forget to have a Cows ice cream while you are here. There are walking tours of Chalottetown done daily to take in some of the history. And also, you may want to try a driving tour on a double decker bus.

I live in Charlottetown and I love to eat in restaurants. I am assuming you will be two adults.... and it's amazing how many good restaurants we have for the size of our city...

Fine Dining and Good Atmosphere

Pilot House
Restaurant at the Prince Edward Hotel
Restaurant at the Charlottetown hotel
(very good restaurants for hotels)

Good home cooking and good atmosphere and good prices

Papa Joe's
Swiss Chalet (the best one I have ever eaten at - I think it's the PEI potatoes)
Angels
Shaddy's (fabulous Lebanese food)
and my favourite Cedars (you have to try their house chicken)

For fabulous coffee and desserts

Beanz - University Avenue

Real good food - pub-like

Merchantman Pub (across from Prince Edward Hotel) - Queen STreet

Outside of Charlottetown

Unfortunately I haven't tried many restaurants outside of Charlottetown and Summerside. Dining in Summerside is poor except that I have heard of a new place called Heritage Pub that is supposed to be really good.

In New Glasgow is the PEI Preserve company that has a fabulous restaurant called Cafe on the Clyde. You you can get take out strawberry shortcake - ask to have it with Creme de Grand Manier ice cream - ahhhhh - can't wait for strawberry season...

Feel free to ask me any questions and I agree with a previous post on beaches. We are surrounded by beaches - rent a car and just wander around. Put Victoria by the Sea on your list of must visits.

Hi Brenda, Congrats on the trip! I'm sure you'll love the island.
There are many things to see and do on PEI depending on what you're interested in.

Will you have a vehicle to use while here? I know it can be difficult to get a rental during the summer months so you may want to book that now if you are considering it.

Also don't forget to have a lobster supper while here. There are quite a few places that provide a great meal. There are some really wonderful restaurants just outside the Charlottetown area and are worth the trip.

I'm not familair with many of the B&B's (contrary to my user name)Ha Ha....but can help out with that if you like.
I too would strongly recommend ordering the tourist guide available through www.gov.pe.ca

The harbour cruise and seal watching cruises are nice too.

Have fun planning! If you need any help with the plans let me know.

p.s. Airmiles has some rewards available for different shows and activities that you may want to check out.
