Okay I know, Cedar Point isn't Disney but I have a few questions....

How busy would Memorial Day weekend be? How expensive are the hotels (can't get prices yet:sad2:)? Is it worth it to stay in one of their hotels?

TIA,
Emily

Memorial Day is probably pretty busy, since everyone's itching to go. I feel like their hotels are expensive and the cheapest one (I believe it was still over $100/nt has horrible reviews), but have heard that hotels around the area in general are not that nice either. It's a very touristy type of area. I only live an hr away, so we have never had to stay overnight before. If you sign up on their website, they will send you coupons. They aren't a huge discount, but better than nothing.

Oh and if you want to kind of dig around for hotel reviews, tripadvisor.com has a lot about cedar point if you do a search on their forums.

Well, it's a matter of opinion but I think it is not at all worth it to stay there, no perks really and off site is so much cheaper and tons of options right there.

I haven't been in many years... (moved to florida, moved back to ohio, got pregnant and got pregnant again. lol) But Breakers Express was nice when we use to stay. If you stay on property you get in the park early or get to stay late but I think that was about it. Breakers Express was off property but still one of their hotels so you still get the perks. I never stayed in a hotel that wasn't theirs. I guess the only real reason I would say to stay on property is so you don't have to deal with the parking lot. But I remember my parents would say we were going to the hotel and park around back so we wouldn't have to deal with their huge front parking lot.

I know, not really helpful.

We went a few years ago and stayed at the Kalahari Waterpark resort, and Castaway Cay - Cedar Point's water park hotel. We liked the Kalahari so much better. We went Memorial Day weekend, and it wasn't too busy. It was mainly school field trips - as the local schools were not out yet. We had a great time, and would definitely recommend checking out the Kalahari - it was fabulous. My boys are coaster fanatics and really enjoyed Cedar Point - they can't wait to go back.

Hey! I have been there many times & it is NOT worth the hotels it is NOT like WDW @ all. Check out Maui Sands it's a new hotel w/ an indoor waterpark. There are a bunch of indoor h2o parks there. Lake Erie is also very nice to visit & that is free. note:the food @ CP in horrid. :sick:Eat as little as possible there. YUCK! & the lines are close to unbearable.Everytime I have gone I waited @ least 2 hours for the top thrill.:crowded: I'm a huge coaster junkie & they are what ya go to CP for. That's it. So I suggest save ur $$$$ for off prop @ CP b/c there is lots more to do outside.

Maui Sands is out of business.

We’ve stopped several times at Cedar Point, as a lay-over from NH (10 hours) and Louisville, Kentucky (6 hours). Our last stay at the Breaker resort was in August of ’08. A two Queen Snoopy room with tax was $302.17 weekdays and $313.32 on the weekend. Two-day resort-only discounted park tickets were $63.00.

The Breakers resort is over 100 years old (1907) – this is no faux-Disney recreation. The uneven floorboards and maze of corridors testify to the many additions done over the years. The current-day gift shop was probably once a speakeasy during Prohibition, supplied by Canada, just across the lake. The lobby and rooms surrounding the rotunda are in nearly the original state, covered in about 50 layers on paint. The bathrooms for these rooms are down the hall. Only a few of the original rooms are ever occupied, usually by a few college students, used to living in these conditions. The historic areas are cooled only by lake breezes, and are a reminder of how people lived before air conditioning. The older portions of the hotel are an adventure to walk through in the late evening when the happy squeals of children present blend into the ghosts of long ago visitors.

We stayed in a “Snoopy” room in the annex building with air conditioning and modern en-suite bathroom. It’s really nothing special, except for the Snoopy décor, and free plush toy waiting on the bed for my daughter. The rooms are serviceable but nothing to warrant the price except for the location. After driving 10 hours, I do appreciate not needing the car for two days.

Snoopy is available in the evening in his pajamas for free family photos. Pizza Hut and TGI Fridays are available in the resort, but I prefer a short walk to Famous Dave’s BBQ.

Resort guest are admitted into the park one hour early. The gates open with the crowd sprinting to one of the five early-open rollercoasters. Most people are walking and panting when they arrive at the first attraction as the distance from the gate seems to be much longer than what appears on the map. This is the best time to get a front seat on Millennium Force or Top Trill Dragster.

If you like staying at a historic hotel with real character (pardon the dust) and riding fast rollercoaster, you are in the right place. If you expect Disney theming and service, you will be disappointed.

Been there many times with my sister and her family. Call and request their "fun guide" to be mailed to you. It has a ton of coupons. also I don't believe memorial day starts their packages but if so, you can usually grab a decent rate with ticket prices.

We've always stayed at Breakers. No, it's not disney. More like a days inn or 2.5-3.0 star resort - depending on which section of the hotel you choose. Tower/Snoopy rooms are higher than the older section of breakers. The Suites are a good size and worked great for our families.

We love it for the proximity. Being coaster fans, you are allowed early entrance to the parks and it's right at your doorstep! That's a great big bonus to ride Millennium and top thrill dragster ahead of the crowds. Awesome for coming and going to the park. There is a TGIFridays onsite which is reasonable but can get crowded if you time it wrong. There is also a terrific icecream parlor in the hotel and a good coffee shop which may not be open during the early season. They have two other onsite restaurants which I've not been to - one serves pizza I believe. A Famous Dave's is at the marina for takout.

they also have a nice heated indoor pool - as the weather is temperamental that time of year so beach/outdoor swimming may be cold. The hottubs are outdoors and open though.

I say check it out!

the packages used to include a certain number of starlight tickets, cash vouchers, park tix and vouchers for the water park, mini-golf or gocarts.
