If you have one, which one.
And is there a different one that you wish you would have bought instead?
Does it hold the games too...and do you still need one of those skin things if you have a case?

Can you tell I'm a little new to the whole video game world??

We bought THIS ONE for our boys. It is slightly padded, has a clip so they can wear it on the belt hoops (if so desired), and has a place for games and extra sylus pens. And it is probably big enough to carry the charger too - we just haven't checked that out yet. I wish I would have bought these cases when we first bought the DSs.

We did buy skins for the DSs but it really isn't necessary if the users aren't hard on electronics. The skins can keep the actual DS from getting scratched and some of the accessory packs you buy also have screen covers (they are clear and help to prevent scratching on the screen that the stylus touches) which are nice if the primary user is a child.

Everyone said the Nerf were the best and I found them at our local Walmart for $14.97. It's very padded and will protect it from drops. Not the prettiest case, but hopefully the best for protection. We got white, they had baby blue, black, & red

We bought ds a leather one last Christmas at Target - it's brown and has Mario embroidered on the outside -it holds a few games and the DS - it's made it much easier to keep up with!

We got the Nerf one for my son, and it's great.

Here's a link to one on Amazon -- They're $9.99, and qualify for free SS shopping:

They have a few colors, I think.

We got the Nerf ones too....I was worried that the DS would be broken in one drop, but the Nerf looks pretty tough -- we got black w/red, light blue and purple w/green. We will store the games in a different case.

Thanks guys.

The primary user is a 5 year old...I had not intended to get him involved in video games at this point, (he never really showed any interest) but it was a gift from a favorite relative and she also gave him a game that had his favorite characters, so once he saw it, there was no taking it back.
Now I'm torn between the nerf (nicely padded) or the one posted by LilGMom that seems to store everything in one place. Hmmmm....I guess now (because I have nothing better to do:upsidedow ) my new objective is to and learn how to play it myself so I can show him how to get "unstuck". :headache:
And we'll try to keep it in one piece for as long as possible.

I got my 9yo the nerf one. I like it the best.

OP,

The main differences between the Nerf one and the one I posted about in my original post is that the one I got my kids stores games, has a pouch for extra sytlus pens and is more of a carrying case and not armor. The Nerf one acts more like protective armor which the DS stays in while it is in use. For a five year old I'd be more inclined to get the Nerf one since the DS can, and does, get dropped while being played with.

I'd ask the gift giver where she got the DS, see if you can get the receipt and see if the store offers a warranty on it. Things can easily happen when a young child owns something like a DS and that warranty could pay for itself in no time. I know Best Buy offers a warranty and if the DS stops working you take it back to the store and they replace it.

fyi nintendo itself has a one year warranty.. and after that a charge for repair. But if you need to send it end the tack on another year warranty. I just sent my daughters in few weeks ago because the screen wasnt working right. I had it back within week and it was Thanksgiving week. no charge for shipping either.

We have the Nerf also. Let me tell you it works!! DD dropped it getting out of the car on the driveway, and not a scratch on the DS. The Nerf however is scratched, but thats OK.

I'm new to the world of DS also. My DD6 got one for her BDay. She hadn't really showed interest either but there was a Princess Game she was dying to try. She has LOVED it. BTW--Princess Game was a total dud. Mario Kart has been the best so far.

The best advice I got from a friend with a DS7 was no matter what case you get train your little one to put game back in it when they are not playing with it. That was it is always ready for the car, doctor's office, etc. and you aren't scrabbling around the house trying to help them find their game.

Also, I think eventually you will have so many "accessories" that no case will be perfect. We ended up using a little basket in her room for extra stuff and the case holds the games she is using now.

One more Nerf fan here. All three of my kids have them on their DS's. My 5 year old to protect the DS from being damaged. My boys because they think they look cool.:thumbsup2

We have 3 DS's in the house. All 3 have had to be repaired for broken hinges. Currently ds(10) is using a nerf armour to keep his DS in one piece. The hinge is cracked for the 2nd time. The warranty has expired and it cost $75 for the repair. The Nerf armour has hinges so since the Ds still works the Nerf Armour has saved me $75. My boys are no longer aloud to use their DS's without the nerf armour. If we had put it on when we bought the DS's we probably wouldn't have had to have any of them repaired. I highly recommend the Nerf Armour. It protects from drops and doesn't allow a child to over-extend the hinges when you open it.

Great idea - I hadn't even thought of that...

I'm sold - it sounds like we'll be getting nerf armor!
