Please - I'm not posting this to become a debate about rear-facing vs. forward-facing and 5-point vs booster. I just wanted to share this link for people that may be interested.

My DD is turning 2 this week and part of me was thinking of turning her around, but now she will stay rear-facing longer. My mom will think I am nuts, but I can send her this link now! So, this is for all you moms/dads who might be in the minority like me (at least where I live!) where you extend rear facing and do 5 point harnesses for longer.

If you need to FF for some reason, this seat is coming out this summer and includes crumple zones, said to absorb up to 40% of the impact while FF in an accident. I have been considering picking one up for my 3 year old because once LO comes out of the infant bucket, my daughter won't be able to get in the car unless he turns around. :scared1: Part of me feels silly being scared to turn him FF at 3, but he's just safer how he is.

Thankfully we don't have to buy any new seats - hers is good RF until 35lbs.

I just watched a little person for a month or so, and so I had 2 RF seats in the middle row. Poor DD5 had to crawl under their seats to get in/out! :lmao:

Good for you! I didn't know any better with DS *luckily nothing happened* DD RF'd until she was 3 & a 1/2 :thumbsup2 she's still in a 5 pt harness seat *she'll be 9 in July.

I wish I could still make her crawl under, she towers over other kids her age and in the last few months has stopped being able to sneak in that way if I put the boys in first. I told her to take up yoga but she seems to be ignoring me.

Wow, I thought I am going a long time. Good for you! My son is still in a 5-pt and he's 7 and didn't forward face until 2.5 years old. My husband made me promise that I will take him out of a car seat before he goes to college. Um.. we'll see...

DS just turned 2 and he is still rf i know he will at least stay that way until august

:thumbsup2 One of the primary reasons that we had to buy a larger vehicle (we had a Prius and I couldn't fit a rear-facing convertible seat behind the driver) in preparation for our second child was so that DS could stay rear-facing. He will be two in a couple months and is only 25 lbs - I plan to leave him rear-facing until at least 3.

I was a car seat tech for about 7 years and, I have to say, this is one of the best lists of what to do/not to do I have seen.
