OT car seat help

If they're looking for a lower-priced seat, let me add my vote for the Cosco Scenera. I provide the car seats for my DCK, so I own somewhere between 8 and 10 of them, LOL. Six are on "permanant" install, as in they normally stay in their spots in the van, and then I have one or two I carry with me and a couple more that stay stored in the house... as they expire I get new ones.

When the 'baby' (18mos now) graduated out of his carrier, I needed something reasonable, so got the Scenera for under $40... it's not my favorite car seat I've ever owned, but it does the job and it's comfy for DDCK. If you're not going to be spending a lot of time transporting, and not something inexpensive (as car seats go,) I'd recommend it.

It's listed as just shy of $50 on the Wal-Mart site, (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8054497) but I'm pretty sure it was ten dollars less in the store when I bought it a year ago.

Do you switch car seats out every morning? I'd go crazy if I had to do that... takes enough time to load six kids, I can't imagine having to secure their car seats, too! (FTR I'm a bit of a nut about car seats so it takes me a while to get them in right... LOL)

For anyone looking to buy a Cosco Scenera, I know that our local Kmart has them on clearance for $37.00 right now. HTH

Thanks for the info. I only watch him, he is a friends baby. She had to go back to work, didn't want to put him in day care and I wanted to be home more, so we worked it out. He is here Tue-Fri. He has been in his infant carrier so I have an extra base in my car. I will probably have to re install the seat every tuesday morning during his nap, but that really does not bother me. I suggested the Scenera to her as one for my car and it could stay--I am even willing to purchase it. We only take one short trip a day and sometimes a second one on rare occassion. I think it would fit our needs fine. We are going out this weekend to look at seats together as she never new much about car seats before and just bought whatever for her other kids. She would like to have a seat that goes to a higher weight limit. I am glad to hear that seat works well. I am a labor nurse when not at home and many of my patients have a limited budget if money at all for a seat. I saw it is in the wal-mart flyer that came in the mail yesterday.

The Scenera tends to work really well for kids who are 8#+. I tried Ilana in it at 8# and the straps needed to be a little tighter, but otherwise it would be a good seat from birth. We give out Evenflo Titans (the next county over does Sceneras) at our carseat events to parents who need a free seat. We don't do infant seats unless mom is having twins or something b/c they're outgrown so fast and then the parents are just back again needing other seats. I would reccomend the Safety 1st Avenue over the Scenera though. It's a little more, but has a taller shell and the EPP foam. We got ours at K-Mart for $79, but I'm sure they go on sale often there.
