OT ~ Can I take down my tree now?

Your welcome. Now if you are following the chocolate Avent calendar that is a different story.

PS What is CHILLAX?

I don't personally know anyone that puts their tree up and takes it down according to the Advent calendar.

We put up the tree when we have time and take it down when we're sick of it.

I wasn't saying that people put their trees up according to the seasons of the church year. I was just making an observation that before we had observed the first day of Advent, it seemed that people had jumped ahead and were already celebrating Christmas. So it's no wonder that by the time the season of Christmas begins, people are sick of it already. This is only the third day of Christmas and so many people have packed away all the directions already. It's such a short season. I don't know why people don't observe it until Epiphany.

I'm sorry but I really don't understand your post. On one hand, you say you're not saying that people should put up their trees according to the advent church year and yet you don't understand why people would take down their trees before Epiphany.

I think the main thing here is to understand that people observe Christmas or the season however they wish and there is no need to understand someone else's reasons for taking down their tree according to your beliefs. Even in the Christian world there are many different calendar dates for Christmas, Easter, etc.

Personally, I could care less when people put up their tree or take it down. To each his/her own.

SandraC: Chuck that thing out if you want. As soon as I get the energy, I will be doing the same thing.

I put mine up in the last week of November and take it down New Years day.

I agree take it down when you want, who cares but you.

Sandra

I honestly wasn't trying to start an argument here. My statement actually had nothing to do with Christmas trees specifically. I was talking about Christmas celebrations in general. Take the church year out of it and I'll restate what I meant. It seems like some people start observing the holiday ridiculously early, like as soon as Halloween is over, and then by the time Christmas Day actually arrives, they are sick of it.

I agree. People can choose to celebrate however they want. I will admit that I find it a little depressing to drive around on Christmas night and see trees tossed to the curb and houses with the outside decorative lights turned off but in the scheme of things, this really isn't a big deal. People can obviously do what they want to do and I assure you, this doesn't impact my life. :lmao: It was just an observation.

In my churches though, I would absolutely insist that the decorations in the sanctuary stay up until after the second and final Sunday in the Christmas season.

(FYI, the date that Christians choose to observe Christmas and Epiphany are generally consistent from denomination to denomination. You are absolutely right about Easter being a movable feast that's observed at different times by Eastern and Western Christian traditions but that's a whole other discussion.)

Hmm. That would be 47 teaching days for me (+2 PD days), or, if you like....75 actual days. But who's counting? :rotfl:

:lmao: I hadn't thought to count the days yet! :rotfl2: As much as we love our jobs, we like the countdowns as much as the students!

All of our decorations including the tree will come down Jan1st!:thumbsup2

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!:dance3:

I took our Tree down yesterday.. I like seeing it up but honestly the cats like to climb it and bat ornaments around so we had enough and took the tree down!

We have a New Years Eve Party each year and the decorations make the house look more festive. I have taken down the stuff in the family room, basement and upper floor. We don't put any decorations in our bedrooms but the hallway is done and the main bathroom does have some Christmas towels, soaps and a Santa.

Ours came down today. I'm glad to finally have my livingroom back! I love christmas though and while I wish I could keep it up longer the space just doesn't allow....

Ours will come down today - we gathered all the christmas nick nacks yesterday and cleaned upstairs - today we'll finish upstairs and do the main level - it's a real tree and has been in since Nov 30th so it's done well to last this long..... will be sad to see it go as I love Christmas and it goes by way too fast but on the other hand will be happy to get my de-cluttered house back!

I'll be taking it down today I think. Ours has been up since the 29th of Nov. a real one too. Still looks great though. We went to dis on Dec. 8 so I wanted it up before we left. I dont know why I am hanging on to it this year, but I dont want to see it go.

Both trees are down...house decorations come down over the weekend.
