OT - Can I Lock My Kids in a Small Box?

The problem is, he is slacking in his chores. Garbage, I am always having to tell him It's garbage night, take out the garbage, blah blah blah,

Then the washroom, is getting done later and later i n the week, and then I have to tell him to do it over cause he only did half of it. :headache:
Steph, I had a Barbara Coloroso tape when my kids were little (Kids are worth it! Giving your child the gift of inner discipline ...) One thing she did with the older ones (and I followed suit with the kitty litter chore) actually dealt with garbage. Let me just say, that calmly and sweetly waking a teen out of a dead sleep at 11:59 PM to do the chore that they had told me they understood had to be done by midnight only happened once per kid-well the first 2, the others learned by example. :rotfl: My DD called last year. In one of her education courses, Barbara C came up, and the kids had to do an essay. She said. "Mom, I didn't even have to read the book....I lived it! (she did read it, too, btw)

My oldest is 20. "Help" him leave?? I told my friend last week that I'll pay first, last and every month in between if he leaves!
 I DID that! The oldest didn't have a job, and I registered him for college, packed him up, moved him and signed the rent cheques so that he could be a km away from the college, and several away from me!

OK. You are all making me feel that I am not alone. LOL. I just don't understand what the big deal is about answering the simplest of questions honestly. Instead, I get, "Ummm...I forget." or "I don't know" or my FAVOURITE - "That's my business." And this in answer to "who did you walk home with today, or what are you listening to on YouTube cause it sounds really silly, like sheesh who peed in your cornflakes today??

If I leave him to his own he eats uncooked roemen noodles and crackers.

So my deal was, "You are going grocery shopping with me, tell me some foods that you will eat, and then I will watch you eat your meals." But he couldn't go cause he had homework, so I go, get my stuff I need, and come home and he tells me he all of a sudden found out he doesn't have to do his homework. So I tell him "off the computer anyways, cause you lied to me and I don't have time to go tomorrow again." He says he forgot to tell me, then says he didn't lie and found out while I was gone. :headache: :mad:Then it was a big argument cause I told him to be off the computer. I am a bad mom, then that went to why is my son still here?? I was like :confused3 what are u talking about?

I won't smoke but wholly after that arguement, it took me a few hours to get into the mindset to do my paper, so I was up quite late. And now I havve to start it over  cause it sucks. LOL

:hug:Thanks, it's nice to know I am not the only one that feels like I have an alien living with me.

Yep, aliens they be!!!!

I have a friend whose kid had her own tv. My friend unplugged it, reminded her DD that SHE paid for the electricity, so had control. I've used THAT one, too, when mine won't get off the computer. Actually, things are pretty calm because I really choose my battles. No sense arguing over what you CAN'T win!

Well I DID THAT TOO! And I also literally packed him up and sent him far off to college. The problem was HE CAME BACK at the end of the year and transferred to Toronto.

It was an expensive year but a good year. :sad1:

This is so interesting! We were at a dinner party the other night and my friend Rob who is a very successful business man was talking fondly of his recently passed away mother. He told us she was so tough on his lazy a** that he hated her all through his teen years. It cumulated when at the end of the summer after grade 12 he had no job and no college or university lined up she drove him down to the local college, fighting and yelling the whole way, marched him into the registrars office and made him register. He ended up transferring to university after one year, became an engineer and never looked back! He was crying as he told us this because of course at the time he thought she was an out of touch lunatic but she was only being a good mother-all of you who care enough about your teens are as well. They will get to the point where they appreciate everything you do guys, whether it be as they hold their own babies or even older.I am not looking forward to my kids teen years, it should be hard as my dd(12) and I already butt heads and always have. Good luck to all of you-hang in there...
