OT-campground in central TN?

Every year we try to meet up with some of our friends from Arkansas about halfway from our house to theirs. Last time we stayed in a hotel in Memphis, this year we would like to find somewhere neat to camp in Central TN. Any recommendations?

I dont know of any specific CGs...but TN is soo pretty...I bet you can find SOMETHING that'll blow you away.

Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is most likely the area you're looking for. Tons of shopping and outlet stores for those that like that and plenty of mountains/trails to explore/hike/horse back ride. We vacationed there for most of my life and it's got just about everything for everyone. It now also has DollyWood (Dolly Parton's theme park) which has one of the highest rated wooden coasters in the world. I've rode a lot of coasters and I'll have to back up that rating. Though, the tickets for Dollywood are more expensive than Disney World tickets. My parents still go down several times a year because it's fairly close but I keep stating that for what they spend going on short trips there they could have a long trip to WDW for less money. If I wasn't so hooked on WDW, I would still be going there myself.

P.S. Don't forget to get some taffy at one of the shops in Gatlinburg, they have great white chocolate and fudge too.

Thanks for the tips Sinclare. We've been to Dollywood & the Gaitlenburg area once. I'm sure our friends would love it, though it may be further than they'd want to drive. I'll certainly run it by them!

the KOA in Nashville is a nice campground and close to the mall and tourist stuff. the KOA discount would save $. about 2 hours west on I-40 is Loretta Lynns ranch ,this is our favorite summer spot. we love to float and canoe the spring fed creek {Mr. Goofy would tell me to insert FISHING here} the town of Waverly has some nice places to eat and a drive-in movie theatre here is a link. if you have any more questions feel free to pm me. and if you go let me know you never know we may be there. http://www.lorettalynn.com/ranch/ they accept Good Sam discount. 1-800-821-2179 is the drive in info line

Fort Campbell, KY is the closest I've ever camped. It's just over the border from TN.

If you are wanting to stay in Nashville, I have heard that Jellystone is nice. It is located down the road from the KOA that the previous poster suggested. I have stayed at Two Rivers passing through Nashville for a night, wasn't very kid friendly. They are good places to stay if you are wanting to experience Nashville. I live in NW TN we do alot of camping at the Land Between the Lakes, lbl.org. it is located about an 1 1/2 west of Nashville. It is good if your wanting to hike, bike, fish, or just hang out. The LL Ranch sounds nice though. I may have to check it out myself. Hope this helps.

I actually live about 45min. from Reelfoot lake. They do have a campground located on the lake. However, it is very small and "rustic". The bathhouse is not bad. Not alot to do unless you are fishing. We have camped there once. Since we live so close, my husband usually just takes the boat down for the day. I don't know if Reelfoot Lake has a website. That is the only campground I know of and since it is small it usually fills up, especially on weekends. Hope this helps.

I've stayed at both the Nashville campgrounds mentioned and prefer the Jellystone. As a matter of fact we will be there the 29th for our trip down to FW. The lots are larger and most are pull thru.

..Loretta's campground is lots of fun,lots to do,,,but only for name sake would we eat at Loretta's diner ( not too good) but we do tell folk to try the "Log Cabin" diner next to it,,good stuff...Mr.Goofy

I was wondering what you thought of LL's diner! I have to say, I left their feeling less than stellar! I think I consumed a years worth of grease in one sitting!

I will check out the campground though!

These are two of my favorite places in Middle TN. If you are looking for something a bit closer to Nashville, PM me and I can help. But if you are looking for nature at its finest these parks are top notch. Defeated Creek even has full hookup sites right on the water. Beautiful spot.
