OT: BIL Vent

There's no way I'd let anyone borrow our van for a trip to Vermont! No way. For a 6+ hr drive over 4 states? Again, no way. It's crazy for someone to want to take your daily driver without offering another vehicle that's not a stick shift.

If you can afford expensive toys like pinball machines, then you can rent a van yourself.

However, the MIL thing I would have tried very very hard to not upset her and to have it work out with everyone happy, because she's very involved with your lives and you need each other. I can understand your frustration, but honestly, that type of thing happens with me and my mom all the time and we try to be nice to each other and forgiving when things don't quite go as planned. An apology goes a long way, even if you feel you weren't really wrong.

I didn't expect my MIL to stay in Target until I got her a list. I also didn't expect her to be upset that I didn't get her a list within her timeframe.

He needs to know, so that he can help. I want her to be able to talk to him, if/when she feels she can't talk to us. I don't hide things in my family. Are my DH and I supposed to discuss this in hushed tones, and stop talking when DS comes into the room?? No, we don't keep secrets in my home.

Then she'll tell him about her problem when she wants to ask his advice. Honestly, if my mom shared my business with everyone in the house I wouldn't want to talk to her either.

You need to have a serious talk with your husband and have him handle these situations from now on. When MIL or BIL call for anything, simply say, "I'm not sure. Husband is handling that. I'll have him give you a call."
