Here's the thing-I'm new to cloth diapers. Yes, I'm guilty-used disposable diapers for my ds forever-but I really want to switch to cloth. He's been potty trained for about a year, but still needs diapers at night time-and not every night, but most. So, for someone who's new to the world of cloth diapers (I really have NO clue) what kind would you suggest for a 3yo, night time diaper? Where do you buy them?

BTW-I have been trying my own "homemade" type cloth diaper and it's not working too well. I have been trying a plastic pant with microfiber towels inside. (See, I'm clueless). It has worked some nites, but then there's other nights where it leaks. My ds is not very big, about 30 lbs. TIA

Maybe fuzzi bunz, in size large or petite toddler, depending upon how he is built. I like those for nighttime because you can stuff them with a little extra to make sure he stays nice and dry ;) They're so soft against the skin, too, because the inner lining is fleece.

I also agree that FBs are the way to go. They are a true work horse diaper that can hold a LOT of stuffing! As far as I am concerned, you can't beat Cotton Babies microfiber in them!

I'd buy the diapers from Cotton Babies. Jen has great customer service!

I agree-- cotton babies has excellent customer service and I really like their inserts!

I like fitteds and wool at night. My second choice is a fuzzi bunz super stuffed for night time.

I had a very heavy wetter who was in night nappies until he was 6 1/2.

I used pad-folded terry squares with microfibre cloths as extra boosting, with a fleece liner on top (to keep him nice and dry) all inside an XL Popolini wool wrap. It gave excellent breathability.

Don't worry if the nappy looks like it is very bulky - it will probably need to be as dispicables have the expanding gel but cloth nappies often rely on bulk to provide absorbency.

We loved Happy Heiny's for night time after DS was daytime trained but still needed something at night...like the OP I used disposables up until then (had I known what CD-ing was all about back when DS was a baby I would have done it in a heartbeat...I had no clue it wasn't all pins and rubber pants anymore!)

Anyway...DS refused to wear any sort of diaper, pull-up, or anything once he was day trained, but his body just wasn't ready for a full night yet. So I HAD to have something that pulled on. Happy Heiny's stuffable training pants came to the rescue. I used the microfiber towels for inserts and DS didn't mind the bulk at all. I liked that we could add an extra layer if he had been drinking a lot right before bed, was extra tired and went to bed early, etc.

Good luck!

I have a 16 month old and use a combination of both sposies and cloth- depending on when I did laundry. I tend to use sposies at night because she is such a heavy wetter- often wetting even thru a sposie.

HappyHeinys (used when she was 2-4 months) seems to wick to the outside fleece and wet her clothes. I liked using a Bummis super wrap with kissaluvs- but they can get bulky.

My alltime favorite, absolute best diapers is BerryPlush diapers. They are made from minky fabric, plastic snaps that dont come undone, have a doubled over hemp insert with minky on top for ultimate comfort. I also like that they allow you to snap them in front or back to shift where the bulk of the diaper is needed. The only website that I know of that sells them is www.jamtots.com and you can even have custom embroidery done. I have had butterflies, names, elephant in pjs, sea turtle, etc. These are the most absorbant dipes I have found. I Own 5, but DH lost one pair. You can also slide in an extra insert (like the oval piece from a HH) inbetween the layers.

You're gonna love them!!!

If he likes the pull-on kind, depending on the level of wetting he does, you might try the Bumkins training pants. They are cotton inside and nylon outside, and are really cute.

However, they are huge. I ordered his "size" and they were just very large. Doing it over again I would have ordered the size down.

I love cottonbabies, but I usually ordered from kellyscloset.com.

Congrats for wanting to do the switch, and I hope it goes well for you!!!

WOW! A cloth diaper thread on the dis!! I am sooooo excited!!! You could visit the cloth diaper forum at www.hyenacart.com

watch out cding is addicting!!! I actually owned and operated a cloth diaper business. I have since sold it to someone else but it was so much fun making diapers!! I don't' have anyone in diapers anymore but I still love them. :goodvibes

My favorites were the ones I made (DiaperBabies) but I also used some pocket diapers. Chinese prefolds and Prowrap covers are super cheap and a great way to cloth diaper on a budget but if you are looking for something unique...diaper "art" go to Hyenacart.com and browse. My favs were my fitted diapers and knitted wool covers. www.mosaicmoon.com makes fabulous knitted wool covers. to die for.
