OT: Back to School

Make sure your local schools are hiring before you make the leap. In our area 6 districts have laid off thousands of teachers and jobs are impossible to find. Everyone in our county with less than 2 yrs tenure was laid off. Jobs are scarce, even for the best teachers.

You know, this is something that I am concerned about, but even if the jobs were not currently available, I don't think that alone would stop me. I'm not entirely sure how long yet my program will take. I have a B.S. in Psychology, and a good handful of the necessary pre-requisites are covered by the courses necessary for that as well as electives I took, but there are many more courses that I will need to complete. I'm expecting it to take a fair amount of time. I believe that I have been extremely fortunate enough in my life to gain a variety of experience (and my first degree), that if the worst case scenario is that teaching jobs are not available, I have other experience to call upon while waiting for them to become available.

I definitely don't want to discount this scenario, though, and I appreciate the advice. I really hope things improve in your area.
