My DS teacher is pregnant. Some of the kids want to make something.

In another classroom, We recently made a ceramic plate that was fired with the kids thumbprints on it for a teacher who got married. (It was $60) I feel like for a baby gift this isn't as appropiate.

Any sugestions?
Any neat ideas?
We are going to do a baby shower for her with the kids, they are ages 6 to 9 years old.

Thanks, I am open to any and all sugestions.

what about a piggy bank where you do the same thing with the fingerprints

My sister was a pre-k teacher while she was prenant with her 1st child and she got a "hand" painted time out chair with her son's name on it. The kids got to put their hands in paint and cover the seat and back of the chair. (only about 10 kids) My nephew is 6 and she still has it and, and trust me it gets used all the time!

When I was pregnant with our 1st DD I was teaching 1st grade and they threw me a surprise baby shower. The room parents somehow collected money from all the kids (probably @ $5 and I only had 11 students that year) and then went out shopping and bought a bunch of different gifts from all the kids. They had enough so that each student could give a gift. They were things like, rattles, pacifiers, bibs, etc. We also new that we were having a girl so they bought two baby dresses and a little necklace. I am sure they weren't very expensive but it was totally the thought that counted and the kids were just so proud. One of the mothers then baked a cake for the shower. It was so special to have them all feel so a part of our special time and I truly appreciated everything that the mothers did to help make the class feel important. I am now a SAHM but I do occasionally go back up to the school where I taught to see my old students and then they can see how our DD has grown over the past 3 year.

How about each kid giving her a copy of their favorite book? Being a teacher, I am sure she will know the beneifts of reading to her baby. And if you have a handy dad in the group, maybe a simple bookshelf to put them on?

I was pg with my DS while teaching first grade (now sahm). The other first grade teacher organized a surprise shower. I got a gift card and a couple of small toys as a group gift. She had also gotten the Mercer Mayer book "The New Baby" and had the kids write their name somewhere in the book--I love this, and I get choked up when I read the book to my DS and see the names on every page. She also made a "prediction" page that each student filled out--with their prediction for height, weight, and a suggested name, and drew a picture on it.

If anyone sews, the children could bring in a fabric square and someone could make a quilt.

I love the book idea. Have each child bring a book. That gives lots of price choices and helps build a library. I also like the time out stool ideal. WE gave my DS's 5th grade teacher a shower and included all three team teachers, about 100 kids!! WE just bought regular gifts but everyone LOVED her and gave really nice things. She had a ton of stuff. Problem however when the baby was born a month later and that "little girl ulta sound" was a bouncing baby boy!! She had gotten a lot of pink and purple.

When I was pg my students (7th grade) had a shower for me. I was due in Sept and wasn't coming back after summer break so we had it on the last day. Some of the kids had picked out their own gifts while others chipped in for a gift card. I see my DD in an outfit and think of them.

The book idea is a great idea.

What about getting an unfinished toy box. Paint the outside a gender neutral color and then have the kids put their handprint and name on the inside. A colleague of mine got this last year as a gift from her class. She then had the art teacher paint the outside part of it.

My DS9's teacher had a baby on October 11th.

The class is having a baby shower for her when she returns.
I'm just going to send in a gift card.
It's her 1st baby...this way she can pick out whatever she wants/needs.

Wow great ideas!! I really appreciate them.

I just adore my DS teacher and want this to be special.
