Modification question

So, worst case, MS should be able to do it if the room is available? I'd be too nervous to cancel my 1 bedroom and re-book a 2 because if availability disappeared in those moments, I'd be out of luck.

That probably won't happen and, even if it does, those 1 BRs will not go that fast at the 7-month mark. So, worst case, you just rebook your 1 BR, but using VGC points first.

The trickier thing will be if a 2 BR isn't available for all nights that you want. I think there is a good chance they will be. But, if they're not, you can book the nights that are and waitlist the individual nights that are not. I recently had to do this for a 2 BR lock-off at RIV where we decided a little over 4 months out to switch from a 1 BR to a 2 BR (and wanted a lock-off if possible). I wanted 8 nights. I was able to get nights 1-5, and night 7. So booked those and waitlisted night 6 and night 8. Within a few weeks, I had all 8 nights - I did have to contact MS to merge a couple of the separate reservations into a single one.

Yes as long as the room is available at 7 months MS can do it.

You can switch to the 2 bedroom by modifying your current 1 bedroom. That holds your current 1 bedroom and won't drop it unless you confirm the change.

Would I be able to put back some of the BRV points and replace them with other resort points at the 7-month mark or only add other resort points to cover the additional cost?

Your home resort contract be locked for that reservation.

You can upgrade and add more days from your contracts at the start.

You will not be able to replace any days. What you could do, and what I do frequently with my SSR points, is book any days at the beginning or end of my trip still available, book new, and then drop the corresponding nights I booked in home resort.

Sorry but this just went way over my head. I'm confused.

You can’t call at 7 months and swap out points from a home resort booked reservation.

You can add days to the end, but the days you secured using home resort priority must still use those points and that contract will be locked…which is what prevents the swap.

The only way to achieve is to book any nights still available at the beginning or end of your stay new at 7 months, and then drop the ones you booked using home resort advantage.

For example, I had January trip booked that I used RIV home resort points for at 11 months.

Then, at 7 months, I booked the first night using my SSR points since it was still there and canceled the first night from my original reservation.

So you go in and do that every single day of the reservation to gradually switch it?

I just don't understand why I can't book 7 nights in a 1-bedroom at 11 months. And then, if a 2-bedroom is available for all those days at the 7-month mark.....why can't I just go change the whole thing over to a 2-bedroom using a different combination of points?

I don't understand why this is so confusing for me.

I just want to use my 2 BRV contracts to book 7 nights in a 1-bedroom now. That way, if at the 7-month, there are no 2-bedrooms, we'll just keep this reservation.

And if a 2-bedroom is available for all of our dates at the 7 month, I don't want to have to completely cancel my 1-BR and rebook because with my luck, the 2BR would magically disappear in between canceling/rebooking.

But it sounds like that might actually be the only way to have a 2-bedroom book with partially BRV points and partially VGC points.

If you are switching room sizes, then that is different.

You can modify and use the other points because you are not keeping the same room.

However, when modifying a home resort booking at 7 months, sometimes the contract you used at 11 months remain locked and it won’t let you switch it.

So, you could end up needing to call. I thought you wanted to just keep the same room at 7 months and use the other points.

That you can’t do. But, yes, I will book one night at a time if I need to to replace home resort points when I can!

If we keep the 1-bedroom, we will just keep it with the points originally booked. We will only use the VGC points if we bump up to a 2-bedroom. I've never really paid much attention to 2-BR availability at the 7 month mark so I'll be curious to see what's out there. A 2BR is a bit excessive for the three of us, but I'd love to have 2 bathrooms and more than 1 real bed.
