OT aol instant messaging

My ds is a fanatic about the aol instant messaging but I want to switch aol to sbc dsl yahoo. my ds does not want to change because he wants to continue with the aol instant messaging. My question is if you have a different internet provider, such as sbc, can you still IM with all the people who have aol.

Yes - you will need to setup a new AOL screen name but can still use Instant Messanger.

we have cable modem after years of dial up with aol. I wanted to keep my screen name and address as I did not want the hassle of changing SO many things, (bank, ebay, boards, bills, etc.)
So, we "piggybacked" aol onto our cable account. It only cost us $14.99 a month this includes 10 dial up hours in case your dsl or cable ever goes out. To us it was worth it.

I had AOL for years and then switched to high speed cable. I called AOL and told them I just wanted to keep IM and they charge me 2.95 a month. Very cheap and I kept my boys happy. We were all able to keep our screennames and still have AOL mail.

When we switched from AOL to cable, I was able to keep my AOL screen - name (not email though). I never had a problem.

Maybe it was b/c I had downloaded the free AOL IM before the account was terminated. I'm not sure, but I have had the same IM name since I was 17. So thats 7 years.

There is a program called Trillian, that works with all the IM's. So, if you have an AOL, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ or IRC accounts or friends that have different from you, you can use Trillian, and it works with all. And is FREE!!!
