DD has outgrown her single bed and we are buying her a double mattress/box spring tomorrow.

I thought I read a few years ago of a company who will take your old mattress/box spring, clean them and drop them off somewhere for less fortunate people. The mattress if fine (smoke free home) but is just too small for her.

Does anyone know of any companies who would take her old mattress/box spring in the area? I have no problem dropping it off , I just need to find out where. DD could care less that she is getting a new bed, all she cares about is that a less fortunate person will get her old bed.

Thank you

In Cobourg there is a beyond the blue box store that takes old matresses and box springs and if they are in good condition will sell it for a cheap price to people who need them. That is the only company that I know of.

The company you are buying the mattress from may take the old one and will donate for you. Otherwise you can also contact any local shelters, the diabetes/CP clothes pick-up.

We bought a couple of beds from Sleep Country earlier this year and they took our 20-year-old queen bed away with them. They would have taken DS's twin as well, but we transported it up to the cottage instead.

My sister has gotten rid of a lot of things (including my old double mattress) through a yahoo groups group called "FreeTrade". I think if you just do a search of yahoo groups you'll find the one in your area.

We put an old dishwasher up for free and it was claimed within an hour!

YES Sleep Country is the BEST as far as I am concerned. They take them, refurbish them and then send to women's shelters. Once the women & their children (if they have any) become established and are able to move out, they get to take the bed(s) with them. GREAT idea, that is what we did.
