OT - Anyone had a child that refused to potty train!

Oh, and while you're still doing diapers, do not making changing time fun or interactive. Don't look at her, don't talk to her, just be all business. Up on the table, change, down. When she sits on the potty, sing songs, read stories, play games.

I feel your pain. My DS turned 3 yesterday and he has no interest in potty training. We have tried incentives like stickers, toys, saying you will not go swimming in Mickey's pool, etc. but it did not work. I have also tried using big boy underwear and goinng around naked. He just pees or poops in the underwear on on the floor. Today, I tried taking toys away and that did not work. People have told me he will use the potty in his own time. It is a struggle to just drop the subject but I am going to try to. I just have to get DH onboard with doing that as well. But, I am tired of stressing about it and I am sure he picks up on my stress. Wish me luck. I wish you luck too. As people say, you do not see college students in diapers. :rotfl: So, just let it go for a little while.

pixiedust: & to you.

I agree with the previous poster that you need to back off. Clearly, this child is not ready to potty train. Punishing her by taking away toys will just be counterproductive and seems really mean. When she is ready, she will no doubt train quickly. Until then, it is just a losing battle that seems to cause you unnecessary stress and work.

Good luck!

^^^^THIS. I have a newly trained 3 year old. She turned 3 in December. From the moment she was born, I had it in my head that the summer she turned 2 we would start trainig. So, last June, when DD was 2 1/2, I bought a little potty, got her some underwear, and gave it a go. We had a few early successes and then, like your DD, she decided one day she wanted nothing to do with it. Refused to even go into the bathroom and no amount of bribing would change her mind. So I gave up. Fast forward to last month. I now have a 3 month old and a toddler who's still in pull ups.....I've about had it up to my eyeballs with changing diapers. I put DD in just underwear, no pants, for a few days. By the 3rd day she was pretty much day time potty trained. She has gone about 2 weeks without an accident but did pee her pants this afternoon. Said it "came out too fast."

The key was her readiness to train and not mine. She clearly wasn't ready last summer but now she is and honestly, it went a lot easier than I thought it would! I still bring extra clothes and pull up whenever we leave the house, just in case, but she's done amazingly well. She's even waking up in the morning dry, which is really a big step. Of course, she still wears a pull up at night but we're getting there. And your DD will too. Just maybe give it a rest for a month or 2 then revisit it.

I know I'm opening myself up to flames here, but I bribed my kids. I waited until I knew they had the ability (my daughter was about 2.5, my son was a little over 3) and then we bought a toy they REALLY wanted, put it up on top of the cupboards(so it could be seen but not reached) and we discussed with them that this was a special toy they would only get when they learned to use the big kid toilet. My daughter, that very day, never used a diaper again with hardly ever an accident. My son it took a few weeks of coveting the toy, but when he decided he wanted it bad enough, he did it and never had an accident.

A bribe! Noooo.... I have bribed, pleaded, begged, tricked, encouraged, fussed, rewarded, and we're STILL trying to get him to commit. My oldest son, no problem, took a few days and he was done. Maybe a couple of accidents after that, but he was on board right away. My second, oh my goodness :confused3 It just doesn't phase him when he has an accident. Still working on and hey anything goes to get out of having to buy diapers!
