Didn't exactly "stay" :earboy2: there, but the pool and the whole place looked very nice. I'm sure you will like it there, we love Hilton Head, very relaxing place.

Ihave stayed there a couple of times and we are going back this June.

DIsney's Hilton Head Island resort is located in Shelter Cove... not on the beach, but inland. They do have a beach house with pool, casual dining, childrens water area, and bar. It is a short drive from the main resort, or you could bike it. DInsey offers shuttle service too.

The resort is very laid back. Similar to the Poly... winding paths, lovely trees... The resort was built AROUND the trees... some quite wonderful. The main pool is nice, fun slide, small kiddie pool, hot tub. Hammoncks and BBQ's round out the resort....

There are kids activities out the wazoo at the community center... marsh walks, kids night out, lots of stuff for all ages. Kayaking, dolpin cruises all right there....

Some resturaunts within walking distance....

You can find out a lot more about HHI resort by heading over to the Disney Vacation Club Fourm here on the DIS :-)

We have stayed there and really enjoyed it. In fact my son's family will be staying there again in a few weeks. Kind of reminds me a bit of the Wilderness Lodge as far as the condos go. A short walk to the beach with a very nice pool there. I think you'd like it. Another possibility would be Vero Beach in FL. From what I hear that resort is beautiful.

IMHO HH is a better "stand alone" destination than Vero. I really like Vero beach as a 2,3 or 4 night add on to a WDW vacation, but for longer than that I think it doesn't match HH for variety of things to do.

The DVC resort at HH is very well laid out, it has a great pool area where the units are, there are a LOAD of activities laid on to entertain all different ages (some, like the wine and cheese evenings, work best if you sign the kids up to one activity and the adults to another one) . The beach house is an excellent facility, it has a nice pool area, snack bar and some places to take a rest in doors. It is feasable to walk to the beach house from the resort, but IMHO it's a lot more sensible to drive or bike it. I'd guess it's a good 30 minutes walk maybe longer.
While the DVC resort itself doesn't have a full service restaurant, there are several bar/restaurants within a couple of minutes walk from the resort. There are many MANY more restaurants within 10 minutes drive.
IMHO by far the best dining experience on HH (actually one of my favourite dining experiences ANYWHERE) is " A Private Affair" run by Chef Gordon available through the DVC HH resort. I believe this is currently available at the DVC beach house when chef Gordon will cook a meal just for your group. He is an excellent host, talks you through the preparation, you can help if you feel so inclined. He will suggest a menu and wine pairings, but will cook pretty much anything you request. This gets very popular so booking as far ahead as possible is sensible. He will discuss the menu with you before you arrive ( usually by emails) .

Sorry I didnt realilze when i posted the resort was DVC
We are not members ~ so we cant stay there but tell me all about Hilton Head ~ I am semi planning a surprize trip for dh and my 10th anniversary
know anything about Sea pines?? thanks

You do not have to be a member to stay at Disney's Hilton Head Island resort. Check the Disney Vacation Club web site for cash specials and Disney credit card site too.

The same goes for Vero Beach. We stayed at Disney's Vero Beach resort on a cash special and left as members. It was beautiful.

You can certainly reserve with cash money. My only fear would be availability. How far out are you? HH sells out completely for most of the summer. We tried to go there for our 10th last year. Booked 7 months early for early June, got 2 weekend nights, tried to get 2 more nights on either side of that weekend and we were only successful getting one additional night. The resort was completely full.

That being said, it's an excellent choice for an anniversary if you can get in. We had a wonderful time
