Sorry for venturing over here, but I need some help! I just got accepted into the University of Cardiff for my last semester of University! I am a western Canadian girl who has never been to any area of Europe at all, and although I am really excited, I truthfully know nothing, aside from the tour books, about Cardiff. I will be completing my degree at both the University and the University hospital, and I have a couple of questions regarding that area.

Are the University and the University hospital really close to one another?
What area of Cardiff are they? Where should I look for room and board? What areas should I avoid?
What is the transportation system like?

I think I will start with that. I found a place on the Univeristy website for lodging, but I think I just need a better idea of the area before I choose a roommate.

Thank you thank you thank you!

Also, if anybody is a nurse in the UK, I would love to talk to you as well. I hear there are some discrepencies regarding our scopes of practice, but am not sure if I believe them all. Please let me know and I will forward any and all questions to you.

Sorry again for coming over here, but I just feel like I am going around in a circle and not getting anywhere.

Thanks again - Joline

One of the Mods here on the UK Community Boards, FloridaSun, lives in Cardiff. I am sure she will respond to your post when she reads it.

Hello from a very sunny Swansea, which is about 40 miles from Cardiff. Unfortunately I don' know Cardiff very well so can't help with that. However I am a nurse (having qualified many years ago now !!), so if I can help with any nursing type questions, just PM me and I'll try my best.

Thank you everybody so much!

Hi Joline

I live in Swansea (like chowells), and my DD is just finishing her final year in Cardiff university. She's sharing a flat with four other girls and one of them is a Canadian, and I have a feeling she is also from Edmonton.

Congratulations on getting your placement in Cardiff! I think Cardiff is a great city - big enough to have a lot to interest you, but small enough to feel a lot friendlier than bigger places. I believe it's about a twenty to thirty minute walk between the hospital and the main university buildings and there are buses that connect the two.

If there's anything I can help you with, or if you'd like me to put you in touch with my daughter or her Canadian flat-mate, send me a PM and I'll see what I can do :)

Hi Joline & Sue I'm from Cardiff as well and have a bit of working background in the hospital. I can PM you with a bit more info later
