Hello all.

Well. for my Writing Across the Curriculum class at my college; I have to read 800 pages.

Any ideas of good books? They don't have to be thick ones, just tell me why you like them :)

Thanks! :):lmao:popcorn::

looking for alaska - 221 pages
catcher in the rye- 276 pages
the time travelers wife- 546 pages

those are my three favorite, and that adds up to 1000 pages, but if you read all three, you could choose which ones to write about.

Yeah I wouldnt mind getting some ideas for books myself. I have never been a big book dude but I would love to pick up something easy and just try to get back into it. Nothing too girly is all I ask.

time travelers wife is sort of girly, but its got a lot of action, fighting, and sex in it too, if that balances out the romance. ;)

Hmmm i MIGHT check it out. I just need something kind of fun and something I can kind of relate too.

a scifi fantasy series i really love is the eye of the world series. there are about twelve books, but they're very engulfing.

another series for scifi is dune. its pretty deep.

anything by pears anthony. especially on a pale horse. thats my favorite by him.

anything by george orwell, his essays and short stories will definitely stay with you.

childrens books that i love:
a series of unfortunate events
coraline

those are written for younger audiences, but theyre easy reads and very entertaining.

the redwall series is also very good fantasy.

and watership down.

I really want to read the time travelers wife!

haha well, I actually don't have to write about them. Just log the books and pages read. I don't mind reading at all :)

Ha ha yes to say im obsessed with switchfoot would be a sever understatement. I play all thier stuff on guitar (Was just rocking out to stars FAR to loudly) and listen to their stuff constantly. I try to reflect Jon Foreman from a spiritual and living standpoint, ha ha I even look a lot like him. Ive met them as well and they are such humble such amazing dudes.

I love Switchfoot! Saw them live two years ago it was fantastic. <3

Some of these books aren't super popular but I loved them.
All of the Pendragon books are good.
Ender's Game is very very good, and it's pretty deep.
Mara Daughter of the Nile is great, it's about espionage.
Little Dorrit is loooooong, but good.

The Time Traveler's Wife was DEFINITELY one of my favorite books. Anything by Dan Brown, although his books can get quite lengthy. But they are way better than the movies.

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch is the most meaningful book I've ever read.

What about Stoneheart? It's the first book in a series about a boy who breaks a dragon statue outside the Natural History Museum and is transported to an alternate universe where statues come to life. The statues are split into spits (human statues) and taints (animal statues) and they're at war with each other. The book is an interesting read, and it's set in London so I can relate to the story more, having been to some areas mentioned in the book. I haven't read the next 2 books though...

Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chebosky.

Short, quick read, but very, VERY good.

Anything by Philippa Gregory if you like historical fiction.

Anything by Jodi Picoult.

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.

Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pierson.

I've read the Lovely Bones :) I'm looking forward to the movie :)

JOHN GREEN IS MY IDOL.
Have you watched his vlogs on Youtube? They're phenomenal. I suggest them.

I second this post, and also suggest that if you want to knock out all 800 pages in one book, you could read Anna Karenina by Tolstoy. I read it last year for independent reading in English and I thought it was quite good.
Something smaller: I'm reading The Great Gatsby right now in English class and I love it. =)

What kind of books do you like?
Lol, everyone's posting all like proper smart-sounding books so my list of favourite books are gonna sound stupid xD

Airhead series - Meg Cabot. About a normal girl whose brain gets put into a supermodel's body and has to do the modelling job as well as pretending that she (her old self) is dead, so she can't see any of her old friends.

The Host - Stephenie Meyer. I know some people wouldn't even consider reading it just because of the author. But honestly, it's really good. It's about when the earth is taken over by an alien species (souls) who live inside human bodies, causing the remaining humans to live in hiding.

The It Girl series - Cecily Von Ziegsar. It's about when Jenny from Gossip Girl goes to boarding school lol.

Princess Diaries series - Meg Cabot. About when a girl finds out she's a princess.

Hush, Hush - Becca Fitzpatrick. It's about when new boy joins the school and gets made biology partners with this girl. Then a load of scary stuff happens to the girl and she's not sure whether to trust the boy (who is actually an angel who got kicked out of heaven) or not.

Of Mice And Men - John Steinbeck. About when 2 men go to work on a ranch (to earn money so they can get their own ranch some day) and one of them is quite slow and often gets into trouble because of it.

I just ordered and received the first two Kingdom Keepers books by Ridley Pearson. I finished the first one in just a few hours. It's an easy read and a good story. All about WDW ! Can't go wrong with that :)

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. It's about a dog reminiscing on his life with a family over the past... 12 years I believed. It sounds ridiculous when I tell you, but the summary hooked me. I bought it to read at school, but I read it in under a day. It's not very long.

If you liked The Lovely Bones you should probably check out her other books, although they're not exactly as... friendly? The Almost Moon is about a woman killing her mother, and Lucky is about rape. It's not as friendly simply because it's a memoir of the author being raped at 18. I think it would break my heart, I haven't read it because I can't find it in bookstores.

the lovely bones
kingdom keepers 1&2 ( this IS the dis boards :) )
peter and the star catchers series

what my mother doesn't know- it's a novel written in poetry form. 250 pages, but if you condence the poetry down it comes to less than 100!!! that rly helped me when i had procrastinated on a book project.

secret's of my hollywood life series

i can't remember them all, i've soooo many good ones.

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is phenomenal. It's kinda shory and a quick read, though.
The Peter and the Starcatchers series is also fantastic.
My favorite book series is definitely the Dragon Keeper series by Donita K. Paul.
There's an abundance of fantastic books that exist if ya look.
Have fun! :goodvibes Reading is awesome. :thumbsup2

I don't really like What my mother doesn't know (I'm not really a fan of poetry.) haha but it's still a good suggestion :)

Thanks to everyone! :)
I have lots of books to go get from the Library.
I'm also sneaking the 2010 Walt Disney World Guide in there :)
