OT: Another request for good thoughts and prayers...

Simon, I've been suffering from headaches my whole life. I was diagnosed with migraine at age 14. I'm now 32.

The longest headache I ever had was 8 weeks. It would at times feel like a migraine (one sided, pulsating pain) and at other times, a tension headache. But, for 8 weeks straight, it didn't go away. What finally made it go away was a combination of Soma (muscle relaxant) and 4 Aleve Liquid Gels daily (2 pills, 12 hours apart), to reduce the inflammatory response in my body. It took 3 days, but the pain went completely away. It was my worst "attack" ever. But, it was nothing serious. Head pain can be so bad sometimes that you are convinced you must be dying.

I hope for you, that this is a similar situation. The bad thing about these kinds of combo headaches is that they are aggravated by stress, and the more pain you are in, the more stress your body is under, and it's a vicious cycle that is difficult to break.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that you are likely okay. The biggest issues would be bleeding in your brain or a tumor, and if those have been ruled out (you wouldn't have a brain bleed for 6 weeks without other symptoms), it's likely just a VERY complex headache. Men tend to get these types more than women.

Hang in there! In the meantime, see if you can get some muscle relaxants Rx from your doctor. Ask about taking Aleve. It's the best anti inflammatory out there for this sort of headache. I often use Aleve as a "chaser" to my migraine meds, at the tail end of an attack.

Also wanted to add that visual disturbances are not at all uncommon with migraine. MANY migraine sufferers have problems with vision, paralysis, hallucinations, loss of speech/language control (they either speak gibberish, or have problems pronouncing words correctly), numbness, etc. Migraine is a very complex disorder, and everyone suffers differently. Migraine also tends to appear later in life for MEN. It's not a fun thing to live with, but it's a manageable condition.

Which is interesting because women get ocular migraines more than men.
