Has anyone been the museum? What else is there to do in Pittsburg? I'm thinking about taking a trip out one weekend. I'd probably fly since it's a 5+ hour drive. When I ran the idea past the BF he didn't even know who Warhol was (shame on him), but he's game if I can find some more things to do.

theres a very nice zoo, the trip up the mountain in the trolley and the just plain old museaum which is nice too. If you go in June I beleive there is also an Artists Fair in the city which was very nice as well.:goodvibes

The Three Rivers Arts fest is in June, I was going to be a participant, but backed out. I don't think my medium is right for it, that and I'm not sure I'm good enough. ANYWAY! LOL. I haven't been to the Warhol Museum, but they have done a very good job with it. It's on our "North Side", near PNC Park (Pittsburgh Pirates) and Heinz Park (Pittsburgh Steelers). I would look and see on their respective websites if either is going to be having a game or event at their parks on the days your coming, Pittsburgh traffic is HORRID because of our stupid tunnels (The only in and out of town from the airport really.)
I've also love the Carnegie Museum, and Phipps Conservantory (They have a Chihuly Exibition there until November 11th, but they'll keep one of the pieces)
If there's any other sites you want to see while here in Pittsburgh PA, let me know, PM me, I'll let you know if it's worth it or not on a fair and unbiased opinion. :)

Born and raised in Pittsburgh (Go Steelers!!!)
If your a sports fan you can tour PNC Park (where the Pirates play) and Heinz Field (home of the Steelers!) PNC Park is a beautiful place to watch a baseball game on a summer eve (especially if its a fireworks night!) Make sure you try a sandwich @Pimanti Brother's or some wings @Quaker Steak & Lube! Kennywood amusement park. Zoo is nice. Carnegie Museums (Science Center, Art, Natural History.) Take a cruise on the Gateway Clipper! Ride the incline!
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions! :cutie:

Neither one of us like sports, so that stuff is out. The Carnegie Museums sound interesting as does the June Festival. Thanks for the replies :)

Have never been there but there is some cool early 20th century architecture at University of Pittsburgh (Have seen pics and would love to see it sometime in real-life.The Cathedral of Learning -- maybe :confused3 ) Right up there with the Chrysler building IMO. ...if I ever get up to the northeast again.

The funny thing about the Cathedral of Learning?! It's the worlds tallest building that purely houses learning facilities. I think I may have phrased that wrong, let me try again. It's the tallest educational facility in the world. (Do either make sense?!) The other one is the PPG building, it's what gives Pittsburgh it skyline.
OH! We also have Falling Water by Frank Lloyd Wright about an hour outside of Pittsburgh! OOHHH! I haven't been, but Brad Pitt and Angelina came out a year or so ago to tour it, so it MUST be good to see. :)

I can't comment on what else there is to do in Pittsburgh, (I went there for a business conference), but I did take a few hours out of my schedule to do the Warhol Museum and it was FABULOUS!!!! There were several whole-room installations -- one room you walk in simply has floating, silver, pillow-shaped balloons. You can touch them, hit them around the room, whatever.

Another room holds Andy's time capsules. Every year he put together a time capsule and they have one opened and displayed for viewing. But you can see all of his time capsules lined up on shelves, behind glass.

His art, as a whole, is revolutionary, (I think), but it really can appeal to anyone. I had a great time exploring this museum.

Enjoy!!

I love the room with the floating pillows! I grabbed one and hugged it. My partner virtually disowned me at that point!

If you visit in the summer, go to Kennywood, a great traditional amusement park.

I love it!!! That's so great. I mean, how many places are there where you can hug art? Precious few, I'm sure. Seize the moment, I say! :)

I'm trying to think back on some other Warhol pieces that really jumped out at me -- but it's always the silver pillow room that sticks in my mind. The pink Last Supper is a piece I remember. The photography is quite good, too. Again, so much to see!

Hi Everyone! I am back from Disney!

Ok the question at hand? What isn’t there to do in Pittsburgh? What kind of things are you looking for?

We have a great cultural district with lots of shows, great museums ,wonderful zoo and terrific places to dine(from Eleven to Pirmantis in the strip!) . If you are looking for clubs I can lead to some good ones and some ok ones. Some have shows every weekend some occasionally.(of course there is always my girls production company putting something on locally!)
What season? We have good Skiing, 3 rivers to cruise around on, hiking, biking really whatever you want! Of course we have the Steelers (but don’t hold your breath on getting tickets cheaply) and the Pirates and Penguins. (I feel like I should be on our tourism board  )

And the drive out isn’t all that bad depending on season. I make a trek to Easton about 3-4 times a year driving,

The Nationality Rooms! That is in the Cathedral of Learning. Basically, they have various rooms set up in the style and architecture of various cultures/countries in different time periods. Its amazing in person. It is also free to see. They also have guided tours, I believe.

I would gladly go with you. I go to the Warhol about once every three months (only live 20 minutes from it,) and they always have something new out to see. The permanate work is amazing, but I really do love the shows they bring in. They had one about four years ago on the Kennedy shootings, and the connection to Andy's work with images of Jackie-O.

Also, in the summer there is Kennywood, a small amusement park. Also, Southside has some cool shops along the main drag. There's also the Science Center, which is running the Bodies exhibit right now.

The Warhol Museum was really cool when I went there. I was lucky enough to work for a company that helped sponsor it, so I got a special tour that was given by a member of Warhol's "Factory."

If you have time, it is worth it. I found it amazing that someone could take so basic and commercial (in everyone's home) and make it memorable.

If you go, get ready for your "15 minutes..."
