I'm thinking about installing a security system, but I read online that the wireless ones ADT etc. installs are almost worthless b/c if the intruder rips off any part of the system (the keypad, or whatever), the whole system fails! Does anybody know if this is true? I'd hate to pay ADT $37 a month for nothing! :sad2:

I asked my DH and he said that if a ADT keypad is riped off the wall it will not work. He also said not all companies do that but ADTs keypad is the whole brain of the system. He also said you could just call around and ask you questions and most will answer.
Hope this helps.

This is not true. I work for an alarm company, that I will not name, and this is not accurate. If your keypad was to be ripped off your wall, we would receive a tamper alarm. The brains of your alarm system are in a big electrical box located elsewhere in your home. You can also tell your sales person of specific things you want to be notified on for your alarm system. Hope this helps, feel free to PM if you have anymore questions:goodvibes

Thanks, luvmickey. I just talked to the install guy, and he said it was true. He said they just try to put it somewhere other than right by the door to buy a little time. :confused3 I asked if the siren was built in to the keypad(to lead an intruder right to it), and he said it was. I talked to another (local) company that did mention putting in 'tampers' to help with this problem, but she couldn't really explain what that was all about. I'm supposed to be getting ADT installed today, but I may cancel to get a little more time to think about it and research it. I just can't decide...

DH works for a security company as well and his is not like that. For some reason ADT is and a lot of others are not. To the other person if you would like to know the company he works for I will tell you (pm me) but I will tell you now that they might be mergering with ADT in may-sept of this year.

I don't want to publicly give any info, don't want to publicize where I work;) But you may want to call the sales and service office and they can help you decide what you want your alarm to do and not do for that matter. I'm not sure if a tamper is additional or standard but I do know we receive alarms if a keypad is tampered with. Absolutely get all the info you can before you make the purchase. Good luck with whatever you decide!!:goodvibes

****EDIT***** Sorry didn't see in the original that you were speaking of the wireless system! Sorry, you can get the hard wired system, that may solve the problem?
