I didn't see another thread for this - so I hope this is ok. If you text "Haiti" to 90999 you will automatically donate $10 to the Red Cross' efforts in Haiti. The Red Cross has raised over $800,000 already with this texting campaign since the devastating earthquake hit. It is easy and we can help $10 at a time. Thanks! Angie

This is a quick and easy way to donate! Just so people are aware, because they are not always aware of all the information, the $10 will be charged to your cell phone bill. This is not one of those text here and someone else will donate a certain amount for you. There are a lot of scams out there right now feeding on the people who want to help so make sure you check out exactly who you are donating to and how that money will be used. I'm not saying don't donate just make sure that you are donating to a genuine agency that can and will use the money for the people in Haiti. This Texting one from all I have seen is valid. I am sure others will pop up that are not....

I was watching Larry King, and Andrerson Cooper last night. And they both had this text and donate number on their shows. I was horrified by what is going on in Haiti. Those people need help, and need it fast.

Skeptic that I am, I had to check to see if this was legitimate.

The link for this "TEXT" $10 donation is on the Redcross.org website, so I can donate my $10 with confidence :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for printing the link. The Red Cross is such a great organization; always at every disaster to help, in addition to daily things they do in local communities.

I am so glad that there are organizations like the Red Cross and faith based groups that can take my money and know how to best use it.

What is this "texting" that you talk about?

:rotfl:

Not laughing AT you - hoping that you were joking. Right? You were joking?

If not, texting is when you can type words into your cell phone and send the message via cell call. Much better socially accepted practice than "sexting" which is bad, very bad.

My daughters and I were booking a trip to Disney. We were goint to stay at a water view room at CSR but instead decided to get a regular view after seeing the stories on Haiti. We sent the $140 difference we would have spent on a better view to the Red Cross fund for Haiti. It's not a lot but God they need it.

This is probably going to come across as unpopular but I have to say it.

Please find any other way you can to donate to any Aid agency other then the Red Cross.

People in bad times need help and the Red Cross is not the agency that they once were.

We have been through 2 major hurricanes in the last couple of years and in my opinion and I would venture to say a good bit of Southeast Texas opinion, this is the most useless, unorganized organization that I have seen. It was weeks before they got their act together. Awful.

I fully support donating to to help Haiti and I plan on doing so myself. But the Red Cross is not the way to go, at least for me.

Thanks and I guess flame away.

Our thoughts ad prayers go to those hurting right now.
