As others say, go if your disability regs allow for it! (Kudos to crisi for helping cover all your bases.)
FWIW, I had EXACTLY the same reaction when I was diagnosed several years back. I was in grad school then, and I couldn't afford to go, financially, so on the credit card it went because I couldn't afford not to go mentally and emotionally. I went after a three surgeries & a round of chemo--it was the best $ I ever spent. Planning the trip gave me something to look forward to, I was able to convinced loved ones to go with me, and we ended up having a great time. I give a huge amount of credit to the trip--before, during, and after--for keeping me centered when I most needed to be.

I'm so sorry you and your family are facing this. I think your desire for a trip with your family right now is totally rational. I would definitely go and build those memories, you might need a happy place in your mind to look back on as you endure the cancer treatments. Go, have a wonderful time, then come back and fight this disease and then once you recover, you can plan another trip that you can save and pay cash for, but in this instance, I would definitely go, even if it had to be on credit.
