Has anyone stayed at the Alton Towers Hotel? If so what did you think? I have just booked for the first bank holiday in May at what seems like an extortionate price so I guess I'm seeking reassurance that it's worth it:eek:

Hi Annmarie,

We stayed at The AT hotel about 2 years ago and had a very enjoyable stay.

We stayed in a Cadbury Chocolate Room - WOW! It was wonderfully furnished, with a chocolate machine (although by then end of the break we were a bit fed up of chocolate!), but IMO it was a little overpriced.

The Hotel's Restaurant (The Secret Garden?) was very nice, and I remember the food to be very well cooked and there was a wide selection.

The swimming pool was nice too, and (I'm not sure if they still do this) only let a certain amount of people in at a time so that it didn't get too overcrowded.

It is right next to the park too.

I'm sure you will have a great stay.

I've just seen the advert for Alton Towers' Splash Landings hotel - It looks amazing - it even has its own water park! Does anyone know when it/if it is open?

Richard. :)

Thanks Richard for your response and re-assurance.

The water park and hotel open on the 1st of June and yes it looks brilliant but the cost of waiting till the school holiday's and being able to take advantage of it was just toooooo much:(

Anne Marie,

I have just had a quote for the new Splash Landings hotel for August 1st for two nights,it would cost.......wait for it ......£620:( far too expensive I think. This does include theme park entrance and breakfast.

I know the original hotel was fairly expensive but not too bad.I think the main difference is the park tickets are included for the duration of the stay in either hotel a la Disney! In my two night stay we would have spent a day in the new waterpark and not gone in to the theme park at all. When I stayed last time we had special deal tickets like you get every year off cereal packets etc. Buy one ticket get on free etc. But I guess they've sussed that out by including the park entrance in the package whether you want it or not:confused: (unless every person in the room is an annual ticket holder)

I still think it's a great place to stay for a break with children, but very expensive now

We stayed here a couple of times and I really love the themeing. We had a basic garden room first time and a Peter Rabbit room the second time. I really loved the theming in the PR room. We took DD7 and DS 18mths, mainly to see how he would cope with Disney at 2yrs!! The pool is lovely and we went in on Saturday morning both times, when everyone else was off to do the early entry rides, so we had the pool to ourselves-brilliant!!
The resturant is very pretty, and the general surroundings have a lot ot look at, but it is extremely expensive and I would rather put the money towards a Disney trip! Besides you get the weather in the US!!
However I have just recieved their new brochure and I shall be reading it with interest. Our DS is now 4 and looking forward to his second trip to DW. He loved it at 2!!

..... just moving you over to the UK Community Board :)

Does anyone know if they still have Garden rooms at the Alton Towers Hotel, or have they changed them all to Discovery rooms?

It would be a shame if they haven't - the Garden rooms were veryattractive and comfortable, while the Discovery rooms look a bit too OTT for me and DH, while DD is still a bit young to care much about theming!

Also is the Pirate Cove pool staying, once Cariba Creek (or whatever it's called) opens?

We stayed there for my birthday last year. We booked before April and so got our park tickets thrown in. It cost £135. This year, same weekend, the cost would be £238. That is quite a rise!!!! Think we'll go to Whitby instead.
