OT- Allergy Discussion Boards?

Hi...Do any of you know a good discussion board about peanut allergies? A friend of mine's son was recently diagnosed as allergic to peanuts , and I would like to direct her to a friendly forum for advice.

There is a site (or maybe it is a yahoo group) called POFAK-parents of food allergic kids. Several mamas that I know rave about it. I think it has a small membership fee (like $15), but they said it is totally worth it.

This is a great forum for discussing peanut allergies. My almost 5 year old has a peanut allergy. Now that we've known about it for about 2 years, it's pretty managable, but we always have to stay on our toes and read all food labels. Good luck!

I'm not sure if they have a discussion board, but I'm sure they could point you in the right direction.

they send me email alerts whenever a manufacturer accidentally adds our specific allergy (milk) to a usually milk-free product. it is very helpful. sign up if you can!

They need to join FAAN. It is very helpful.

I used to go to peanutallergy.com, but it actually made me a very freaked out person. Just a warning.

I have ordered from Vermont Nut Free many times, their chocolate is great. I live in the south, though and I had a hard time with the chocolate coming melted even with the ice packs. Plus, it is expensive.

I'm a big fan of Hershey's. You might have your friend call them. My DD eats the plain Kisses and plain chocolate bars, even the Kissables. As always, though they MUST read the labeling each and every time.

I completely agree with the PP. Joining FAAN is a great first step; it's a great organization. I did browse the peanutallergy.com boards but, and this is JME, I found they were too "heavy" and I had to limit my reading there. There are lots of people with great info there, but it can be very overwhelming when you are first shoved into the whole PA world. Vermont Nut Free makes wonderful chocolate, and Hershey kisses were our standby.

We are so fortunate that our DD is one of the lucky few who outgrew PA. Her first reaction was at 11 months and at 5 y.o., after a blood test, she passed a food challenge. Good luck to your friend.
