I have not flown with a young child before and I wanted to bring an I Spy Bottle (game) that I made using an empty water bottle and rice. The lid is hot glued so it can't be opened.

Will I be able to bring it through Security or will they tell me to leave it.

Is there any liqud inside it? If so, you won't be able to bring it through security. If it is all dry, it is fine.

No liquids!

Just rice and small items like beads, foam shapes, penny, pom pom, buttons, etc.

It's not that expensive, I was going to bring it and if they made me toss it oh well. Rather bring the one I made than the one my mom bought at a craft fair.

Maybe I will make extras and give some to some children on the plane.

Those i-spy bottles are so awesome! I love finding little doodads to put inside.

Ok. I have never done these. Tell me the details. i assume your put small objects in the bottle with rice. Sounds really cool.

.

That's the best attitude. If it is dry and the bottle is clear you probably won't have any issues but I always say don't be surprised if it gets flaged. I've seen them toss, the weirdest things.

If it is in your carryon and they see the shape of a bottle be prepared for them to hand check the bag completely. I left an empty bottle -the kind you fill, had meant to put some sunscreen in it and had forgotten where I put it and didn't fill it-they saw it and had to check the bag very thoroughly before deciding I was just absentminded. So if you are running late know they will probably be hand checking your bags.

I've made these before. I use clear fill from Michael's craft store, and small decorative buttons. I scan the buttons on my scanner and print out the images on strip of paper that I attach to the cap. That way my little one has pictures of the items inside the bottle to look for!!

Great idea to bring it with you. I can't see them having a problem w/ it since it isn't liquid.

Should be fine. I would either tell the screener about it, though, (or pull it out and put it on the belt loose in a bin) to try to avoid the major search. I learned to do this with my breast pump when carrying that on...perfectly legal, but looks kinda bomb-like in the x-ray! :rotfl:

I just take an empty water bottle and put some rice in then add a few items:

penny, bead, confetti, foam shapes/letters/numbers, small toys, dice, button, etc.

keep alternating some items and rice and leave some room at the top so the items can move around inside.

Hot glue/crazy glue the lid

You can also print out a list of the items inside and mack tack it and then attach to lid.
